As a mental health professional with many years of biomedical research experience, I have a deeper understanding about the neuro-developmental mechanisms underlying trauma , addiction, and mental health disorders. I truly believe that our body and mind are naturally programmed to heal itself IF appropriate types of therapies are combined with genuine human compassion. I am specialized in treating childhood traumas (complex traumas) which often lead to attachment disorders, negative core beliefs and unhealthy coping mechanisms including addictive behaviors and dysfunctional thinking styles.

I am a specialized trauma therapist trained in EDMR and IFS.
Are you experiencing distressing thoughts that won't go away? Is it difficult for you to calm down when you become upset? Do you feel like you're on edge all the time? Are you having nightmares or trouble sleeping? You may have a negative relationship with your body image. You may feel scared to start new relationships with others out of fear of getting hurt. This makes it difficult for you to socialize or go outside of your comfort zone. You have likely tried very hard to feel better with no success. I commonly see people who feel overwhelmed by their emotions, anxious, hopeless about the future, and unsure how to feel better.

I enjoy working with clients of all ages through a variety of areas including dissociative disorders (DID/systems), complex trauma , developmental/relational trauma , body-image and self development. I see clients as creative, resourceful, and resilient in the ways in which they have survived difficult life experiences. Although once highly effective, clients may find that these survival tools alone may no longer be conducive to their healing. Through therapy, clients can learn to expand upon their internal and external resources, enhancing their quality of life.

My experience in the Veteran's Administration (combat soldiers and military sexual trauma ) has given me some of my best training and life experience.
As a CBT and DBT Psychologist, National Speaker, hospital consultant, and clinical supervisor for Vanderbilt University, I have successfully helped veterans, teens, psychologists, physicians, attorneys, students, celebrities, and homemakers feel better and improve their lives. My business, PSYCHē, PLLC is founded upon the belief that going the extra mile makes all the difference. People need real support and real solutions--not just a nod and concerned look. My job is to help--my clients tell me how.

My focus is on sexual addiction and trauma .
My client base is focused on the addict and those close to them who have been affected by the addict's behaviors. Clients entering the practice have found themselves caught in a destructive cycle of behaviors; often wishing they could stop, but find themselves continuing the behaviors. Then, there are those the addict has betrayed and hurt deeply through his or her behaviors. The affect of the behaviors have often left the loved ones traumatized and in need of support through the healing process.

I'm particularly passionate about working with individuals going through a life through a life transition, members of the LGBTQ+ community, trauma , and those struggling with anxiety and self-doubt.
Life is too short to stay stuck in behaviors, relationships, and patterns that detract rather than enhance our lives. At some point in all of our lives, we are likely to find ourselves stagnant and in need of a change, unsure which direction to go in a time of transition, or just dissatisfied and maybe not even sure why. It can be difficult to know where and how to begin the journey to change and growth. Or even to know what you want that change to be right now. If this resonates with you, know that you are not the only one!

If you have experienced complex trauma , generational trauma , secondary trauma , medical trauma , religious trauma , or narcissistic abuse, you may have struggled to gain the support that you deserve due to the fact that there are still many types of trauma that are under-recognized. I have a passion for using creativity, authentic connection, and even evidence based research on the ways that trauma and chronic stress impact the brain, to individualize therapy for your unique strengths and goals. My commitment to individualizing care also includes neurodiversity training and experience working with those on the autism spectrum.

Life is TOUGH. Nobody's got it easy, but sometimes things happen that are just too much. Somehow, we keep going, but eventually trauma catches up to us. Were you raised in the midst of abuse and now wonder why you have trouble trusting people? Have you watched your child fight for their life and now you constantly worry that you'll end up there again? Have you a survived sexual assault or abuse but still feel like it has a hold on you? Are you angry all the time, constantly criticizing yourself, or unable to progress in your career they way you want to? These are all trauma responses—but it doesn't have to feel this way forever.

All of these methods work exceptionally well with trauma / PTSD .
Each one of us experiences psychological challenges in life that we try to meet using whatever strategies we know. However, sometimes the challenges become too great and our coping strategies stop working. This can be compounded by the fact that we often internalize messages from our society, however well-intentioned, that limit our abilities to understand ourselves and our world. It is in these moments that we can use support from therapists to turn down the noise of the world so that we may find our own inner wisdom about who we are, what we need, and ultimately how to heal.

Areas of clinical interest include trauma , anxiety, depression, chronic pain/illness, ADHD, self-esteem, life transitions, and body image.
As we walk through life, we accumulate stories: about ourselves, others, how to trust and love and relate. Some stories provide a solid foundation for healthy relationships with others and ourselves, and help us move through this world with confidence. Unfortunately, some stories hold us back from satisfying relationships and/or reaching our true potential. My ideal client is ready to begin exploring the life chapters that could use a re-write. I look forward to helping you re-write your stories and empowering you to be the hero of your tale: a hero who is self-determined, confident, and secure in relationship with others.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
