Anxiety, depression, loss, trauma or uncertainty can intrude on life and make it much harder to be the better version of yourself. I am passionate about helping clients walk through any current challenges and resolve the past and move into the future with new possibilities and life fulfillment.

I take a psychodynamic approach and have been trained in Brainspotting--a tool used to process trauma and treat PTSD.
I love working with clients who have a readiness to gain greater self awareness, and those who have a deep desire to know and accept themselves. I have a heart for working with individuals from the LGBTQIA+ community, as a member of the community myself, and deeply value the healing power of trauma work. I also love working with individuals who might benefit from a more experiential approach. I find so much value in the power of creative activities that help engage the client in effective and meaningful ways.

For healing trauma, I use the heart-centered, neuro-biologically based Comprehensive Resource Model (CRM) akin to EMDR, IFS, and more.
ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS — individuals, couple, and families. There are times when life is painful and seemingly without answers, yet what seems most broken in us can be a channel for growth, even a source of strength we never knew was possible. My own healing through therapy and mindfulness meditation inspired me to pursue an MA in Integral Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco -- the first program in the world to blend Eastern philosophical and spiritual traditions with Western schools of psychology. Today, I feel honored to support others on their journey toward healing.

As a plus size, mixed woman, "fitting in" is something I struggled with for years. I battled to figure out who I am and where I fit in this world. Turns out, I was born to stand out. This fuels my passion for working with individuals from marginalized communities. If you struggle with anxiety or depression, need a space to process grief and loss, are struggling with PTSD, want to improve your self esteem, or simply have a longing to uncover your true self and sense of belonging, I would love to work with you.

I am passionate about working with all genders ages 16 and older, with a particular interest in complex trauma, anxiety, depression, religious trauma, and culturally sensitive therapy.
I was raised in the diverse melting pot of NYC as a first-generation Chinese American, born to parents who emigrated from Hong Kong. After college, I moved to Nashville, where I had the wonderful privilege of traveling the world as a musician. These experiences afforded me the unique opportunity to hear thousands of people’s stories—from depression, suicide, grief, and addiction to hope found amidst it all. Through these stories, as well as my own, I came to realize the powerful gift of therapy and the difference that occurs when one comes to understand their intrinsic worth and their capacity to be seen, heard, known, and loved.

We specialize in trauma, including complex trauma and dissociation, and love helping clients at the intersection of neurodivergence and trauma.
Does it feel like other people got a handbook on how to handle emotions, relationships, and work-life balance, but you were left off the list? At this point, you may even have a laundry list of diagnoses - Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, OCD, ADHD, Autism, disordered eating - but you struggle to find healing through traditional therapy. If this is you, we need to chat!

Hi, I’m Carrie. Whatever is happening in your life right now, we can face it with care and find authentic, effective ways to handle it, together. For over 20 years, I’ve worked with individuals, groups, organizations, and communities in making positive change. I have also experienced my own healing journey from childhood abuse and family dysfunction, so I’m intimately familiar with the terrain. My life’s passion is for healing trauma; transforming pain into wholeness; helping my clients develop their unique gifts and path; and nurturing relationships back to health; and that’s what I’ve trained to do.

Welcome to the next step! The step that follows acknowledging that you cannot do this alone. Grief, trauma, and racial/ethnic identity issues are challenging to navigate. Whether this is your first time or not, I commend you for your willingness to be vulnerable and your readiness to work toward growth and change. No matter if you believe the issue is a "quick fix", so complex that you struggle to put it into words, or if you just feel that something is not sitting well within you and making you uneasy in your skin, I am here for you.

A strong therapeutic relationship can provide the context for transformative healing and growth. I work well with people who have experienced trauma or deprivation in their early experience and who desire healing from those events, as well as those who feel stuck in unhealthy patterns of behavior. Since many chronic issues contain elements of earlier experiences, our work together may include increasing your awareness about how your past is at work in the present, reducing its ability to dictate your responses and choices, and letting go of defensive strategies that worked in the past but are not serving you now.

I especially enjoy working with those who have experienced sexual trauma, are struggling with shame, anxiety, codependency, perfectionism, and burnout, or are longing for deeper and more authentic connection with self and others.
I am passionate about the heart and deeply committed to seeing you live more fully by engaging yours. Because your needs are as unique and valuable as your story, my therapy is grounded in Person-Centered Theory. I trust you to be the expert on your own life, and thus the expert in the room. My approach to therapy is integrative and trauma-informed. While drawing from Somatic and Attachment Focused EMDR and Play and Expressive Arts Therapy, my focus remains on the most powerful tool, the relationship. From my own healing journey, I have come to believe we're wounded in the context of relationship, and we heal in relationship, too.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
