My specialties include, but are not limited to adjustment to disability, depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation.
Are you ready to transform depression and anxiety into hope and calm? Would support from an ally promote positive changes in your life? It takes courage to ask for help, but the rewards for doing so can lead to a lifetime of fulfillment. Take control of your life and do not let your circumstances control you! Working together as a team, we will cultivate growth by understanding the obstacles that you face. Together, we will develop solutions that will help you gain control of your life and achieve your goals. Ultimately, therapy can lead you to greater self-awareness, self-esteem, and most importantly, a more fulfilling life.

I specialize in individuals, couples, and families who've been impacted by suicidal thoughts and related concerns, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and identity-related stress (gender, sexual orientation, ethnic/racial).
With individuals, I use mindfulness-based approaches (e.g., ACT) to look at your values (what's important to you) and tackle what's getting in the way of living more consistently with those values. With couples, I use the Gottman method to support you and your partner's ability to re-connect, communicate, and resolve conflict in a healthier way.

I offer years of experience providing individual and group counseling, including work with survivors of trauma, at-risk youth, individuals struggling with grief/loss, anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation/self-harm.
One of my very favorite quotes by Brene Brown is, "Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren't always comfortable, but they are never weakness." As life will sometimes present challenges that may be difficult to navigate, it's not necessary to navigate those challenges alone. I would love to support you in discovering the courage to navigate your truth. As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, I offer treatment that is goal oriented using a variety of therapeutic approaches.

“I am who I am connected to. I am because we are.” This is called Kapwa, and within the Filipino culture, it means inclusiveness is the moral obligation to treat one another equally. This is how I approach therapy with all my clients. I am accepting new clients 18+, specializing in complex trauma, suicide loss, grief, attachment trauma, and BIPOC/AANHPI cultural issues. I believe the path we walk often has been carved for us through culture and generations of trauma that have been passed down to us. Methods I use are Psychodynamic Therapy, Brainspotting, Narrative Therapy, Imago Relationship Therapy, and Relational-Cultural Therapy.

These difficulties might show up in lots of different ways, such as depression (including feeling suicidal), anxiety, self-harm, abusing substances, self-criticism or shame, or other ways.
I am a DBT therapist. DBT's overall goal is "to create a life worth living", meaning going beyond getting rid of "symptoms" to build rich and meaningful lives. I believe this is the goal of most clients who seek therapy. One of the things I love most about DBT is that it offers concrete and practical skills which can be used NOW to make life better.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists
How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?
Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.
Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.
Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?
The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
