As a DBT therapist, I have a particularly powerful tool kit for overcoming issues with
suicide
and self-harm.
If you struggle with overwhelming emotions, I can teach you skills in a supportive, engaging environment. You can join my Online DBT skills training groups from anywhere in the world. I also offer Individual DBT therapy for people in Tennessee, including Skills Coaching by phone, Individual Therapy and group. Dialectical Behavior Therapy is a highly effective, well researched therapy. The work demands a lot from Therapist and client. And it is worth it! Most clients report that my sense of humor and authenticity is one of the reasons they like working with me. I really value the use of "irreverence" in DBT.

Amelya dedicated her life to the field of mental health after loosing a dear loved one to
suicide
in 2014. Since that time she has helped hundreds of adults and children find hope and healing and overcome depression and self-injurious behaviors. Amelya recognizes the long lasting impacts of trauma from childhood and the importance of healing old wounds to break free of past hurts, and begin living a new life, on our own terms.

I offer years of experience providing individual and group counseling, including work with survivors of trauma, at-risk youth, individuals struggling with grief/loss, anxiety, depression and
suicidal ideation
/self-harm.
One of my very favorite quotes by Brene Brown is, "Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren't always comfortable, but they are never weakness." As life will sometimes present challenges that may be difficult to navigate, it's not necessary to navigate those challenges alone. I would love to support you in discovering the courage to navigate your truth. As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, I offer treatment that is goal oriented using a variety of therapeutic approaches.

Are you worried about your child? Does your child not seem like themselves? Your child may be irritable, aggressive and defiant. Your child may seem angry or withdrawn. Adolescents often refuse to talk to you, participate in enjoyable activities, experience thoughts of
suicide
or do things to harm themselves. Your child may have experienced a traumatic event or is having difficulty navigating a life change such as divorce, death of a family member or adoption. You may feel hopeless and not sure how to help your child. If this sounds familiar, I can help. I have experience working with children with these same issues.

I believe that therapy is a unique opportunity to have a safe and empathic place to share one's story. It is a privilege for me to journey alongside others as they discover who they are in the midst of that story. I approach therapy in an eclectic manner, and have experience in a variety of therapeutic issues. I work with both individuals and couples interested in seeking treatment for depression, anxiety, relational distress, conflict resolution, and personal growth.

I enjoy working with women and girls who are experiencing issues such as trauma, disordered eating, anxiety, relationship struggles, self-esteem / body image issues, grief and loss, anxiety, motherhood, depression,
suicidal
thoughts, stress, familial conflict, and navigating life transitions while I help you develop a unique set of coping skills.
I help women and girls unlock their true potential in therapy by providing a space that is filled with empathy, authenticity, and inspiration. My approach to therapy is hands-on and client-centered, as each woman's story is unique. I believe that one of the first and most powerful steps in therapy is simply developing an innate sense of self awareness around your thoughts, emotions, and story while learning to make meaning from past experiences. Providing a relatable and modern approach to therapy is one of my main goals as I help you learn to break free from negative patterns that keep getting you stuck.

I have worked with many adolescents, young adults, families and couples desiring to have a better self esteem, coping skills, communication skills, parenting skills, and a trustworthy relationship with others. Many of them are fighting the battle of anxiety, depression, difficult life changes, parenting, victimization,

I was raised in the diverse melting pot of NYC as a first-generation Chinese American, born to parents who emigrated from Hong Kong. After college, I moved to Nashville, where I had the wonderful privilege of traveling the world as a musician. These experiences afforded me the unique opportunity to hear thousands of people’s stories—from depression,
suicide
, grief, and addiction to hope found amidst it all. Through these stories, as well as my own, I came to realize the powerful gift of therapy and the difference that occurs when one comes to understand their intrinsic worth and their capacity to be seen, heard, known, and loved.

My clients don't come to therapy to hear someone nod and agree with everything they say...that's not worth their time or money. They want real help. They want to know "what to do" and "how to fix it" because they are struggling with depression, severe anxiety, relationship problems, trauma,
suicidal
thoughts, parenting issues, and other painful situations. They are looking for a true expert that they can actually talk to. I'm a member of PSYPACT which means I can see clients in every state which is a member of PSYPACT and I am also licensed in MA

suicide
and self-harm, trauma, borderline personality disorder, compulsive behaviors, parenting, and couples issues.
Are you tired of repeating the same old patterns? Feel like you've tried everything you know? Don't give up. I'm willing to go all in. My style is relational, straightforward, and genuine. I will work hard to help you figure out how to make life better! For work with couples, the goal is always to increase connection and satisfaction. If you've been to couples counseling before and are afraid it won't work, don't give up hope. There are specific tools I can teach you and guide you to use that are based on 40 years of research by John and Julie Gottman.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists
How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?
Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.
Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.
Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?
The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
