Poet Geoffrey Chaucer wrote, "time heals all wounds." You're probably searching this site because you have discovered this is not the full truth. The path to healing requires focusing some time and attention on the wounds you carry. Woundedness is the soul's voice demanding to be attended to rather than quieted. The therapeutic relationship is a conduit through which you discover your innate ability to attend to your soul and ultimately find healing.

My areas of research and special clinical interest include marriage and health, research informed clinical practice, couple therapy, trauma, sex therapy, parenting issues, mood disorders, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse.
My private practice is different than most therapy practices. First, my role as President of The Briggs Institute, Inc. allows me to limit my caseload size. This assures that my clients receive the attention they deserve. Second, my experience in academia places me at the forefront of the field of marriage and family therapy. This means that my practice is informed by scientific research that most private practice therapists can't easily access.

Anxious in love? Do you overthink, constantly wonder, "what if?" and worry that the next disagreement will end it all? Does this leave you feeling like you're "too much"? I would be honored to help you (or you and your partner) reconnect with yourselves and each other, build secure love, confidence, and self-compassion. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), one of the most researched approaches for couples therapy with 30+ years of empirical support. I may be biased but I think it is the greatest model for couples work. Red Therapy Group is an EFT practice that prioritizes continued learning and EFT-specific supervision.

You want more—more connection, more clarity, more meaning.
Somewhere along the way, life taught you to survive- by disconnecting, overthinking, shrinking, pleasing, controlling, or numbing. These patterns may have protected you, but now they’re keeping you stuck: stuck in unfulfilling relationships, in anxiety that won’t quiet, in a constant feeling that something is missing, even if everything “looks fine” on the outside. Whether you're navigating a relationship that feels off, starting over after a major change, or just trying to understand why life feels heavy or unfulfilling, you're not alone.

If a part of you is feeling intimidated by therapy and another part is trying to talk yourself out of needing it, you’re in good company. Before becoming a therapist myself, I sat in the client’s chair—both in individual and couples counseling. I’ve experienced firsthand the courage it takes to find the right therapist, risk vulnerability with a stranger, and step into the unknown.

I work with driven, thoughtful adults, both individually and as couples+, who want a deeper understanding of themselves and more fulfilling connections with the people they love. Using an integrative, client-centered approach, I draw from modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS) and somatic therapies to tailor our work to your unique experiences, needs, and goals.
Whether you feel stuck in old patterns, disconnected from your values, or caught in cycles of conflict or intimacy challenges, therapy can offer a space to slow down, listen inward, and create meaningful change.

My clients often refer to what I call 'blurry trauma,' early attachment experiences that were less than affirming but so ingrained, the client often doesn't recall outstanding events. They may not even remember much about their childhood at all. That kind of trauma leads to addiction, confusing, disorganized or unfulfilling relationships, and difficulty harnessing the resources needed to navigate change so the client can create their most authentic life and relationships. I use present moment, present location resources such as the client's own strengths, passions, and ability to make creative decisions to facilitate safe change.
