I provide individualized support tailored to my clients' unique stories. I use expressive arts therapy and dance/movement therapy techniques in addition to client-centered talk therapy to engage with clients as we process in both the verbal and non-verbal realms. The body and mind are interconnected and the body can be used as a map guiding explorations of the self, as well as a metaphor to express emotions which can be difficult to convey in words alone. Through a therapeutic relationship, I provide empathic support and playful intervention.

I most frequently work with perinatal and postnatal mental health (for both men and women), infertility-related issues, family conflict, and relationship issues (for both the individual and the couple).
It is my dream and honor to help clients who feel stuck in some way in their lives and relationships work towards health, wholeness, and growth. This "stuck" feeling may show up in many different areas in life, such as relational disconnection and conflict, recurring family-of-origin issues, struggles with anxiety and depression, or generally feeling like you're at a crossroads. I firmly believe that relational wounds can only heal in relationship. Therefore, I am dedicated to creating and fostering the safe and secure therapeutic space needed for my clients to begin the hard work of looking deeper and working towards health.

Do you frequently find yourself holding it all together for everyone around you, while inwardly spiraling out of control? Do you often ask “Why did I react that way” or “Why did I say that”? Are you walking through or recovering from a major loss or transition? Perhaps you mask your guilt, shame, and suffering with the illusion of a perfect family, a successful career, or a busy calendar. Eventually, the striving and masking becomes too tiresome and difficult. It no longer serves you in the way it once did. You don’t have to keep living this way, and I’d be honored to support you in healing and growing.

I specialize in trauma-informed therapy for adults, with a focus on the perinatal period ( pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenthood).
Therapy feels intimidating. But so does white-knuckling it through another week. Are you a new or expectant mom feeling anxious or overwhelmed by so many big transitions? Maybe past hurts are surfacing, daily stress feels unmanageable, or you’re struggling to feel present and connected.
Hi! I’m Kara Guindin, LCSW and founder of Wise Roots Therapy. I help mothers heal trauma, reconnect with themselves, and feel safe enough to fall in love with life again- so you can parent from connection, not survival.

I also provide parenting & child therapy, as well as specialized support for women experiencing pregnancy complications (such as postpartum, loss, and infertility).
It is easy to get “stuck” in life. Stuck in our negative thought loops, stuck in our past traumas, and stuck in the pattern of living as our younger selves. The goal of therapy is to experience movement in your life as you begin to apply the skills that challenge automatic thoughts, examine the origins of your behaviors, and gain an overall better understanding of the Self. My job is to help translate and untangle the messages we received in our past that are no longer serving us today. I believe in a holistic approach that examines the connection of our mental well-being with our physical health.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists
What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.
When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.
How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?
In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
