I approach counseling from a strengths-based approach which is supported by research in positive psychology.
It seems as though it is becoming much more difficult to simply navigate daily living. The challenges that our young people face often bring problems with self-esteem, confidence, school performance, peer relationships, and complex social issues. I have a passion for working with youth to help them explore their unique gifts and inner strength to thrive.

I tend to gravitate towards Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Humanistic, Narrative, and positive psychology.
I'm open to meeting with anyone who is open-minded, needing someone to listen, feel understood, and validated. Personally, I've dealt with crises of my own and I know how hard it can be to cope, adjust, and process these feelings. So my goal is to be that person who can help you along your journey. Most of my clients are dealing with anything from anxiety and depression to ordinary life-stressors, relationship issues, but I'm open to meeting with people who are undergoing issues outside of this scope. I just want to help people get to where they want to be mentally, physically, and emotionally.

Using a reality approach to build rapport and using positive psychology and strength based therapy to build and grow the client.
If you have ever experienced anxiety, depression, or trauma it can be extremely difficult to talk about. Therapy is hard at times and will give people anxiety for just simply showing up. However, you are not alone with these feelings. As humans we experience pain and mental health struggles almost daily. But there is always a way through it. If you find the root of the problem and are willing to overcome it. Let's find your goals together and give you the tools to succeed in whatever life may bring you.

I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Brainspotting, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Hypnosis, and Positive Psychology to help people overcome anxiety, depression, ADHD, addiction, and trauma.
Book with me now by clicking on my website. Anxiety exhausts, paralyzes, and overwhelms us. Depression leaves us feeling hopeless, worthless, and alone. ADHD can stifle our productivity while crushing our self-esteem. Addiction keeps us in bondage to that which will never truly satisfy. And marital and family relationships that were supposed to serve as secure bases can quickly become sources of tremendous pain and distress. You've tried to overcome these issues on your own but to no avail; you feel stuck and as though you've run out of options. But there is hope!

Some of the most common modalities that I pull from are Person Centered, Motivational Interviewing, Positive Psychology, and DBT.
One of the most important factors of success in therapy is your relationship with the counselor. It is a big reason why finding a counselor who is a "good fit" is an important decision. That important decision can seem paralyzing, but know that I am here to walk alongside you in any way that I can as you build the life that you want.

I integrate techniques from Jungian Psychology, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Positive Psychology, cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT, DBT, TF-CBT), Gestalt, and person-centered based on each client's needs.
Self-destructive behaviors and impulsivity (like binge eating, substance abuse, or self-harm), low self-esteem, and relationship issues are often signs that you feel lost or stuck in yourself and your life. Young adults and adolescents are especially prone to this kind of struggle and it is common for them to express feeling unheard and misunderstood by people in their lives. Do you feel you are totally lost in life? You are not alone! I would be honored to help you get to know yourself and work to get unstuck so you can live a more fulfilling life!

Psychologist M. Scott Peck wrote in his besting selling work 'The Road Less Traveled' that "The attempt to avoid legitimate suffering lies at the root of all emotional illness." I have found this to be true in both my professional and personal life. My goal as a trauma-focused therapist to is assist clients to move into their emotional pain rather than away from it with the belief that the only way out of suffering is through the pain. It won't be easy but I guarantee it will be worth it.

My favorite all-time bumper sticker: Don't Believe Everything You Think! Obviously, everyone has problems in life, but both sages and scientists have discovered that how we think about our problems is a crucial variable in whether we grow through difficulties (past or present), or get mired in difficult emotions and unhelpful behavior patterns. While we all have unique histories and personalities, what leads to healing and change generally applies to all of us. But more than ever, we are living on "autopilot," and just trying to keep up. All the while, our busy minds provide a running commentary, often full of fear and criticism.

My clients are often those struggling with anxiety, self-worth, and life transitions/adjustments. I also have particular specialities and experience with grief, substance addictions or those who are the loved one of a person with addictions, and trauma. When you read the word "trauma" it doesn't have to mean only abuse, car accidents, etc. There are various stressful life experiences that register as trauma, such as divorce, neglect/abandonment, health related issues and diagnoses, miscarriages, and many more. All that is needed from you is a desire to be present in the counseling space. The rest we walk through together.

As a mental health therapist, my goal is to help you to feel fully seen, heard, and accepted exactly as you are. I will create a safe, non-judgmental space for you to share your story: your insecurities, fears, anxiety, grief, concerns about the future, and your experiences from your past. I work from a constructivist perspective, acknowledging that all of our former life experiences have created the person we are today. I see all of my clients as unique individuals with their own special strengths, talents, and gifts. I will help you to fully recognize and develop these gifts so that you can be the best version of yourself.

Positive Psychology Therapists

How does positive psychology therapy work?

Positive psychology therapy derives from the work of Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania. He and others developed the field of positive psychology building on humanistic theory. Positive psychology therapy is similar to acceptance and commitment therapy, and it essentially quiets emotional distress through positivity, contentment, and well-being. This therapy does not reduce the individual to symptoms and conditions.

When do I know if I need treatment using positive psychology?

If an individual is overwhelmed by emotional distress and general negativity, they may feel trapped. A positive psychology therapist can help them view their emotions and behaviors differently, and approach life with a better understanding of their positive strengths. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from positive psychology therapy?

The patient may be asked to explore their signature strengths. The therapist will also ask the individual to talk about their goals, which should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Discussing negative experiences and symptoms is important, but so is the exploration of positive experiences. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more positive and fulfilling way. This therapy is proactive and may use forgiveness, gratitude, hope, and compassion to help reframe negativity.

Is positive psychology effective in therapy?

Positive psychology therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with eating disorders benefit from this type of intervention. This therapy encourages the person to reframe their distressed thoughts and move into healthier patterns of functioning. This therapy also aims to move an individual toward what works well in their life. Positive psychology therapy can elicit lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
