My work with my clients is focused on bringing them to a place of "something better" in their lives. Hi there! I'm Kevin. Thank you for checking out my page. I am a mindfulness-based therapist for the LGBTQIA+ community, trauma survivors, and those battling the twists and turns of anxiety and depression. I think of therapy like gardening. Taming the overgrowth of ignored emotions, tending to the roots of your experiences, and pruning away what no longer serves you. It takes work and sometimes is uncomfy. Together, we'll find different ways to meet that discomfort and make room for growth.

My passion has always been to work with Veterans, substance abuse, college aged individuals, couples, and multi-racial individuals as they navigate through life changes, trauma, identity formation, and anxiety. I believe that it is important to create a safe space for those individuals to express themselves openly. Using a person-centered approach, we will lean in on your story and help build tools to use when those life events inevitably arise.

You have often felt like dumbo was sitting on your chest, deep breaths were nearly impossible to take, and tension you barely realized you were holding in your body made you sore the next morning? Do you notice a stream of negative and judge mental thoughts in your head that just feel like familiar friends these days? Some days even feel like an imposter in your own skin…wishing things were different but feeling helpless? You are never helpless. You can confront these narratives and begin healing. You can finally release your shoulders, unclench your jaw, and find support. When you’re ready email me.

I use a variety of interventions including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness therapy, positive psychology and more.
I have a passion to help all, but especially those struggling with behavioral issues and trauma. I understands the importance of getting ahead of behavioral issues in children and adolescents before they face legal consequences. I understand the importance of counseling following trauma. I could go on and on about the research backing the need for counseling in trauma. Behavioral issues are often rooted with some sort of trauma. I love helping others find their confidence, safety and mental health baseline. I currently offer sessions Tuesday Thru Friday 8am to 8pm and one Saturday a month.

I mostly work with young adults navigating anxiety, depression, and life adjustments. My ideal client is seeking a safe, supportive space to process emotions, talk through challenges, and learn healthier ways to cope. Together, we will work to identify negative thought patterns, reduce symptoms like panic attacks, and build emotional resilience. They are motivated to feel better and willing to do the work both in and outside of therapy. My goal is to help them feel more confident, in control, and free from any anxiety or depression holding them back.

One of the most difficult questions to answer is often the simplest one: What do you want? We often fixate on the needs and desires of others, losing touch with our own. I believe your desires are powerful beyond belief. They make you unique and hold the key that unlock freedom and opportunity. As we discover them, we can heal blocks, often past trauma, that hold us back, in order to create something new. I'd love to partner with you and explore where you've been and want to go. Together, we will co-create a beautiful path forward and write a compelling next chapter where you play the Hero.

I know life can feel overwhelming at times, and you don’t have to go through it alone. I provide a space where you can be yourself, say what’s really on your mind without judgment, and finally let go of some of the pressure you’ve been carrying. As a licensed professional with a BS in Psychology and a Master’s in Social Work, I bring not only training and expertise but also the personal perspective of having been in therapy myself at 3 different points in my life. That combination allows me to understand what it feels like to seek support and to walk with you through life’s challenges each step of the way.

As a mental health therapist, my goal is to help you to feel fully seen, heard, and accepted exactly as you are. I will create a safe, non-judgmental space for you to share your story: your insecurities, fears, anxiety, grief, concerns about the future, and your experiences from your past. I work from a constructivist perspective, acknowledging that all of our former life experiences have created the person we are today. I see all of my clients as unique individuals with their own special strengths, talents, and gifts. I will help you to fully recognize and develop these gifts so that you can be the best version of yourself.

Positive Psychology Therapists

How does positive psychology therapy work?

Positive psychology therapy derives from the work of Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania. He and others developed the field of positive psychology building on humanistic theory. Positive psychology therapy is similar to acceptance and commitment therapy, and it essentially quiets emotional distress through positivity, contentment, and well-being. This therapy does not reduce the individual to symptoms and conditions.

When do I know if I need treatment using positive psychology?

If an individual is overwhelmed by emotional distress and general negativity, they may feel trapped. A positive psychology therapist can help them view their emotions and behaviors differently, and approach life with a better understanding of their positive strengths. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from positive psychology therapy?

The patient may be asked to explore their signature strengths. The therapist will also ask the individual to talk about their goals, which should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Discussing negative experiences and symptoms is important, but so is the exploration of positive experiences. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more positive and fulfilling way. This therapy is proactive and may use forgiveness, gratitude, hope, and compassion to help reframe negativity.

Is positive psychology effective in therapy?

Positive psychology therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with eating disorders benefit from this type of intervention. This therapy encourages the person to reframe their distressed thoughts and move into healthier patterns of functioning. This therapy also aims to move an individual toward what works well in their life. Positive psychology therapy can elicit lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
