It’s kinda hard to be a child today. I think most would also say it’s kinda hard to be a parent today as well. Does it often feel like that the frustration levels at your home sometime push everyone in your family to exaggeration? Kids refusing to go to bed, teens unable to speak, chores or school work not completed, or worse—feelings of hopelessness with your child not able to enjoy life as usual? Has it become more difficult for your child to manage through another day due to grief, anxiety, or events? It can be hard working through these feelings, and I would like to work with you to help navigate through whatever is happening.

It's hard to talk to friends or family members about the lack of joy or imbalance of struggle in parenting .
You have managed or contained life's challenges until it doesn't work anymore. The experiences of the past do not have to interfere with your joy in the present or future. My goal is to create a safe place for you to explore, learn, and create a new way of being in relationships and the world. I specialize in working with individuals and families that have been impacted by traumatic experiences, complex grief, attachment and relationship ruptures. Loss often involves trauma and trauma always involves grief.

I am trained in Trauma-Focused CBT, Parent Child Interaction Therapy, Attachment Theory & Internal Family Systems.
We begin to develop our sense of Self & identity through our interactions with others at an early age. Our self-esteem, our thought patterns that contribute to anxiety or depression, our choice of a partner later in life--- all are heavily influenced by our relationships with those around us. When you begin to understand the origin of your thoughts, feelings and behavioral patterns, you are better able to navigate your life. Therapy allows us to heal from trauma, process our grief, ease conflicts in our personal relationships, and develop a clearer sense of self.

I know that being a parent is exhausting and hard most days.
Are you worried about your child? Does your child not seem like themselves? Your child may be irritable, aggressive and defiant. Your child may seem angry or withdrawn. Adolescents often refuse to talk to you, participate in enjoyable activities, experience thoughts of suicide or do things to harm themselves. Your child may have experienced a traumatic event or is having difficulty navigating a life change such as divorce, death of a family member or adoption. You may feel hopeless and not sure how to help your child. If this sounds familiar, I can help. I have experience working with children with these same issues.

I have had the honor of supporting clients through a variety of concerns and difficulties including childhood and adult trauma, relationship issues, parenting and co- parenting struggles, gender identity issues, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, and life transitions.
Life can be both messy and beautiful. Life also brings so many opportunities to dive deeper, to transform, and to learn how to love ourselves and others with open hearts. I believe that we all deserve a space to let our feelings be felt. We all deserve to have our experiences witnessed and held with compassion and kindness. My hope is that the therapeutic relationship is a healing one and that the space we create together supports growth and curiosity. My approach to this work is rooted in compassion and human-to-human connection. I believe that authentic connection supports our capacity to grow and change.

Are you struggling to communicate with your co- parent ? I have been helping divorced & remarried parents with "co- parenting " since 2003. My passion is for kids to have a whole and healthy life by empowering and helping divided parents raise them between mom's house and dad's house. This is a complex journey and one that I personally walk every day. I wrote a book, "Co- parenting Works! Helping Your Children Thrive After Divorce" (HarperCollins 2011) and it has been making an important difference with families all around the country. I believe the power of even one stable parent can make a difference for the children! There is HOPE!

After a brief stint as a touring musician and 20 years in the equipment finance industry, I finally found my perfect work-fit: helping families find healing from previous hurts, cope and move through current life difficulties, and prepare for a healthy future. I work with children and young adults who are dealing with trauma, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and grief/loss. As a parent , myself, I understand that when our children struggle, we struggle as well. So, I provide support to parents who are navigating difficult challenges with their children.

Maya Angelou once said, “We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.” Changes, challenges and struggles are complex and take us out of our comfort zone. Too often we find it difficult to slow down, learn from and appreciate the journey of healing. My goal is for clients to help address those challenges, complexities and struggles whether it involves concerns with attachment, behavior regulation, family dynamics, infertility, parenting , racial identity or trauma as well as understand the meaning behind the behavior.

If you are looking for ways to address suffering or meaninglessness in your life or you are a parent of a child who is hurting I encourage you to contact me.
I invite you to partner with me in your exploration of healing. As a psychotherapist with 20+ years of experience using Jungian psychology to help adults, adolescents, and children, I address a wide variety of issues and challenges, including relationships, depression, anxiety, trauma, malaise, spiritual trials and child development. When we sit together, we will explore your “shadow.” Your shadow is made up of parts you do not accept about yourself, and it sometimes generates overwhelming emotions when it breaks into everyday life. This work is about building a bridge to your inner world that will bring wholeness and balance.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
