Utilizing the Psychodynamic Perspective, as well as techniques from Narrative Therapy, Experiential Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Systems Theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT ), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I seek to use the chapters of one’s story to guide the direction of my sessions.
My approach to therapy is collaborative and relational. While woundings often occur in relationship, I also believe that healing happens in relationship. In navigating life woundings, we join together as a team to create safety, security, and trust in order to understand what brought you into the therapy. A firm believer in the power of discovering one’s own voice and core identity, my hope is that clients leave feeling more connected to the person they were created to be. A true extrovert and lover of conversation and exploration, I aim to have clients feel seen, understood, and heard.

I am a certified emotionally focused therapist in Tennessee who helps struggling creative professionals find hope.
You feel tired, overwhelmed and you wish you didn't dread waking up in the morning. Your passions feel distant and hidden from you. You feel like everyone else has it figured out better than you and you keep catching yourself beating yourself up over it. It feels like nothing you do is good enough and you are constantly trying to keep up. You thought it would be different by now and you feel like it's your fault. You find yourself trying to numb the pain but deep down you know it's not helping. Something has to change.

Navigating life’s inherent difficulties can be challenging. Sometimes therapy can help. From confronting issues such as loss/grief, anxiety, depression, and interpersonal problems, to facing significant life decisions or struggling with marital/relationship concerns, many factors can prevent any of us from engaging in our lives more fully. Whether you are new to therapy or you're returning to work through a new or lingering issue, creating a safe place to explore, understand, and respond to your concerns is crucial. Utilizing warmth and transparency, I hope to cultivate a trusting partnership with you.

I utilize "parts" work (IFS), somatic/bodywork (SE), Brainspotting, mindfulness-based practices (MBSR, Therapeutic Yoga), and communication work ( EFT and NVC) to assist my clients in their healing work.
Each one of us experiences psychological challenges in life that we try to meet using whatever strategies we know. However, sometimes the challenges become too great and our coping strategies stop working. This can be compounded by the fact that we often internalize messages from our society, however well-intentioned, that limit our abilities to understand ourselves and our world. It is in these moments that we can use support from therapists to turn down the noise of the world so that we may find our own inner wisdom about who we are, what we need, and ultimately how to heal.

Have you been feeling stuck lately? As part of the innate human experience, we all bump up into areas where we get stuck and our vulnerabilities come to the surface. Whether you’re stuck in the grief of losing someone, caught up in an unproductive cycle within your relationships, or struggling to bridge the gap between you and your partner, feeling stuck can be an isolating and lonely experience. My passion is to help individuals and couples break free from the cycles, roles, and patterns keeping them disconnected from others.

As an EFT trained professional, I use attachment theory to help individuals and couples explore their emotional experiences and needs with themselves and with others.
It is my dream and honor to help clients who feel stuck in some way in their lives and relationships work towards health, wholeness, and growth. This "stuck" feeling may show up in many different areas in life, such as relational disconnection and conflict, recurring family-of-origin issues, struggles with anxiety and depression, or generally feeling like you're at a crossroads. I firmly believe that relational wounds can only heal in relationship. Therefore, I am dedicated to creating and fostering the safe and secure therapeutic space needed for my clients to begin the hard work of looking deeper and working towards health.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
