Couples Counseling Therapists in Nashville, TN
I offer individual, couples, and family counseling sessions, providing the flexibility to view your concerns through multiple lenses.
Growing up in rural Tennessee, I have seen and experienced many of the issues that our communities face and have focused my career on helping people work through those everyday problems. Potential clients for me may be experiencing symptoms of Anxiety, Depression, or Burnout. A history of Trauma or Substance Use may have you feeling stuck in the mud, or perhaps there are pieces of your identity such as ADHD, Autism, Spiritual, or Gender/Sexual identity that have posed their own set of challenges in feeling accepted in the world. Whatever you may be experiencing, it’s important to remember: you are worth the effort to create change.

As a person who was late-diagnosed with ADHD and autism, I understand how someone might look successful on the outside, but internally feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or stuck in cycles of anxiety, low mood, and self-doubt. I have a background in law, but pivoted to working with mental health after facing a lot of my own challenges. I know and recognize how many of us that are intelligent, and high-achieving still struggle with overthinking, burnout, procrastination, or feeling behind when working in systems that are not made for us. I enjoy working with folks that are navigating chronic illness, neurodivergence, and life transitions.

**Now Accepting New Clients** I see adults and adolescents who typically present with anxiety and/or depression. If I had to name just one specialty, it would be anxiety. Most people suffer some form of it at some point in their lives. When left untreated, it can lead to more severe symptoms and a whole host of diagnoses. I practice primarily Cognitive Behavioral techniques. I will talk to you about your beliefs, expectations, and how you experience the world. I'll teach you to be more accepting of yourself, so you can stop judging and reacting from created stories. I will also help you improve foundational behaviors.

As humans, we are wired to seek out pleasurable and passionate experiences, but often in this pursuit, something gets in the way of our enjoyment: shame, stigma, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues
I adapt my client-centered approach to fit the needs of each unique client, often utilizing CBT, mindfulness, trauma-informed interventions, and creative and expressive techniques. For my sexuality-specific work, I utilize a CBT-based sex therapy model (CBCST) in my work with both couples and individuals to learn intimacy skills and improve relationships.

You always told yourself that if you just worked hard enough, everything would be fine. As long as you never took any time for yourself, eventually, you’d be happy. But that hasn’t worked. You’ve accomplished a good career, a nice home, and a stable life. But there’s a feeling of emptiness and dissatisfaction you can’t shake. You frequently lose your temper with friends and family. Your significant other complains that you’re distracted and distant. Even the job you’ve always prioritized above all else is falling apart. You know these struggles go back to something from your past, but you don’t understand how.

Have you frequently left therapy sessions feeling misunderstood? As a kinky, non-binary, neurodivergent, and polyamorous human I understand the difficulty in finding a clinician who understands you and respects your lived experience. As a therapist, I create a therapeutic space that is intersectional, sacred, and honoring of the innate knowledge and ability to heal that we hold in our bodies. I operate from an anti-capitalist and anti-colonial framework and utilize polyvagal theory and attachment science to help clients understand and connect with their minds and bodies in order to build a pleasurable and fulfilling life.

I have a passion for helping people improve their relationships (both with themselves and others), and I also love working with people in therapy groups.
My clients and colleagues describe me as genuine, compassionate, down-to-earth, and helpful. In a nutshell, my work is influenced by psychodynamic and existential theories and draws upon modern analytic, cognitive behavioral and Ericksonian strategies. I am quick to laugh, love to learn, and value my relationships with friends and family most of all.

Stress and strain, loss and grief, trauma, sudden life-changes, relationship difficulties, coping challenges, and mental health issues can lead individuals and relationships to points of internal distress and external behaviors that can be disruptive, distressing and concerning to themselves and those around them.
I emphasize a strength-based approach, using practical skill-building and positive solutions for growth and change. As a trauma-informed therapist, I also support/address relational patterns. When you or someone you love is emotionally hurting, struggling inside, feeling stuck, lost, or even at the end of their rope, it may be hard to see positive solutions.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
