I strive to facilitating a space with non-judgement for all individuals in life adjustments or grief, and focus with experiences of social anxiety, family of origin issues, cancer treatment, infertility, and adults with neurodivergence including ADHD/autism.
When things feel off or when you are not going in a direction that feels authentic you can feel or see it. I approach therapy through a lens of strength, the strength to be vulnerable, to take ownership of your story, and to learning about yourself to act out your values with integrity. My experience as a therapist has shown me any change can evoke grief, and that acceptance when things cannot or will not change can be hard too. Individual therapy can provide support for grief, depression, isolation, and anxiety. Couples therapy can strengthen connection and dreams in your relationship. You don’t need to be alone in your journey.

I have experience as a therapist in outpatient mental health clinics, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, cancer treatment facilities, substance abuse treatment centers and schools. With 10 years of serving both individuals and family systems, I have addressed a vast array of symptoms related to mental health concerns. I tend to focus on the whole body and its connections. I understand counseling as growth, much in the same way a tree grows. In counseling we honor our roots, noting where we came from while stretching our branches high and reaching for what we wish to become.

It is my honor to work with clients on paths of exploration, personal growth, and healing. Because of the pain that often brings us to therapy, I believe that safety, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity are of the utmost importance in the therapeutic relationship. My theoretical orientation in counseling is primarily psychodynamic and interpersonal within a humanistic framework. I believe that past experiences inform current understanding, and exploring such issues can be healing. Change can also be related to a new understanding of relational patterns and a new experience of relationship with the therapist and others.

The more experience I gain the more I recognize the need for deep and holistic work. This is because human beings are complex and each one of us is unique. This process can't be rushed. One step at a time I will help you to explore and understand the deepest and most confusing thoughts and emotions you have. Over time, this process will help you gain insight and self heal.

Being a human is hard. Things happen that leave us feeling lost and uncertain of what to do with it all. On top of that, we hold a lot of what happens to us in the body, creating a struggle between what we feel and what we know, and wreaking havoc on our ability to function in the here and now. I am passionate about exploring this struggle through the creative arts, somatic work, and talk therapy. Words aren’t always enough, and using a blend of these three approaches opens up a deeper well from within our spirits. From that well, new life springs forth and we connect with our most authentic self.

Asking for help is sometimes difficult, and also powerful. Daily struggles with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, intrusive thoughts can become overwhelming. Complex trauma, substance use, eating disorders, unhealthy relationships, are among a few that can also keep us from our authentic self. In order to survive through all of this and keep going, it is common to adapt in ways that end up no longer working. We need help. That help comes from recognizing the gifts we have in ourselves and getting the gifts of others. My gift is to help others with aligning the head and the heart while healing to recognize authentic self.

You simply must take care of yourself. Make yourself a priority. Because... In today's society we are constantly connected, pulled to work more, do more, guilt-fully pulled away from things we love to do, from family and friends- losing sight of who you are. I work innovatively to find the right balance of support and motivation to decrease your anxiety, stress or depression and to increase trust in yourself, your decisions, and to find more of what you want out of life. I work to align who you are with who you want to be, and to find a sense of comfort in the chaos of life.

“A flower is not better when it blooms than when it is merely a bud; at each stage it is the same thing — a flower in the process of expressing its potential.” If you are struggling with unresolved trauma, changing life circumstances, or desiring a life that feels more real, I can help you step more fully into a life that you want. While we all come into this world open and innocent, we get hurt along the way, and we pick up patterns and beliefs that keep us stuck in painful cycles. With a holistic and somatic approach, I can be your companion and guide in helping you to unravel these cycles and (re)discover your innate wholeness.

I want you to be able to live life on your terms, not on the terms of your anxiety, trauma, or depression. I received my master’s degree with academic distinction in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University in 2023. Before pursuing my mental health passion, I was a professional violinist, and I have a deep understanding of the challenges that come with the pursuit of an intensive career, as well as an appreciation for the amount of pressure and anxiety job performance can create. Working through tendencies like overthinking or perfectionism can both enhance your performance and overall quality of life.

My approach to psychological healing is integrative, mixing psychodynamic, mind/body, transpersonal, mindfulness, and CBT approaches to psychotherapy. My philosophy of therapy stresses respect for the client and the client’s experience. Therapy often involves the exploration of family of origin issues and the impact of old conditioning on current functioning. I also emphasize the importance of developing existing personal strengths and resources. I often use a personality system called the Enneagram to clarify client strengths and issues. I have expertise in mindfulness. See my website, www.musiccitytherapy.com.

Cancer Therapists
How does cancer affect mental health?
A cancer diagnosis is a major life event that can significantly influence the mental health of any individual. Being diagnosed with cancer often introduces a sense of uncertainty about the future, which can cause clients to experience symptoms of anxiety, depression, and significant distress. Many cancer patients may also worry about the toll that their diagnosis may have on their family, their physical health, their job, and their financial situation. The compounding of such stressors can also decrease mental health in clients and may lead to additional symptoms that can influence mental health, such as sleeping difficulties or social withdrawal.
What is the best psychological therapy for cancer patients?
The best type of psychological therapy for cancer patients is highly dependent on the needs of the individual. The therapy type that a client benefits from may also depend on what stage of the cancer journey they are in. Recently diagnosed cancer patients, for instance, may benefit from therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which can help clients develop skills to manage the emotional distress that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Alternatively, cancer patients further along in their journey may benefit from therapies like Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) or other forms of mindfulness therapy to help manage symptoms or physical pain associated with treatment. Clients may also consider group therapy, which offers cancer patients an opportunity to receive support from other individuals dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
Are there any risks or drawbacks in going to therapy while dealing with cancer?
Although attending therapy while dealing with a cancer diagnosis can be helpful, one major concern for cancer patients can be the financial cost of seeking therapy. Many therapists are out-of-network, meaning they do not accept insurance, and thus clients are expected to pay the entirety of the session fee. Since many cancer patients may be out of work as a result of their diagnosis or cancer treatment regimen, the costs of therapy sessions can be substantial. Luckily, many cancer centers and local clinics may offer free or substantially reduced-cost counseling services to cancer patients and their families. In addition, cancer patients may be eligible for grants or other forms of funding from local agencies and nonprofits to seek therapy for their cancer diagnosis. Such opportunities can be very helpful for cancer patients, as they allow clients to obtain the benefits of therapy without the financial strain.
How long does cancer therapy typically last?
The length of cancer therapy depends on the needs of each client. In some cases, cancer patients may only require therapeutic support during the period following their initial diagnosis—to help manage the uncertainty and shock of a cancer diagnosis. In other cases, clients may choose to receive therapy throughout their treatment, and even following, their cancer journey. Pursuing therapy for a longer period of time can help clients develop a deeper relationship with their therapist and provide opportunity to process the challenges presented by cancer treatment, such as physical pain, and challenges associated with cancer survivorship, such as ongoing identity concerns, physical limitations, or relationship challenges.
