When you cut a tree down and look at the growth rings added every year, you can see the way fire, water, wind, and people have impacted its life each year. I believe that people are no different. Our environment shapes us, and nevertheless we grow. Some years are harder than others, but even within the hard years, growth takes place.

I've worked with folks from a variety of ages, backgrounds, and presenting issues. One common experience that I've found brings people to therapy is often a feeling that your life is in some way not aligned with what you would like it to be or how you see yourself living it. You might be looking for a confidence boost or to make some meaningful changes in your life. I've worked with veterans, LGBTQ+ individuals, trauma survivors, and more to identify coping skills, perspective shifts, and goals to start moving forward in your life.

Trauma disconnects us from our authenticity, reconnecting to our true selves can feel impossible if we've experienced complex trauma. I am passionate about building relationships with clients where they feel seen, heard, and valued. I enjoy helping clients reconnect and honor all parts of themselves, establish effective boundaries, navigate gender and sexuality as a spectrum, and explore non-traditional relationship structures, like polyamory or non-monogamy. I utilize a client-centered, gender affirming, and sex and kink positive approach to therapy and honor each client's individual lived experience.

You may be feeling overwhelmed, isolated, anxious, depressed, and reliving past traumatic experiences, but hopeful for understanding, confidence, and peace. Through my work in sexual assault centers, domestic violence shelters, in private practice, and at Onsite Workshops I have learned how trauma is stored in the body, how it creates negative beliefs about the self, how it keeps us from living in the present moment and how it keeps us from connecting to those around us. Working with me feels like gentle confrontation and resource building in order to delve into past wounds with a deeply open, knowledgeable, and compassionate ally.

You’ve never felt entirely comfortable in your own skin. It’s as though who you are inside doesn’t align with what you see in the mirror. This is confusing enough, but when you add societal pressures to conform to strict gender norms, it becomes downright hostile. As a result, you’re made to feel like there’s something wrong with you. It’s so isolating to go through life unable to embrace your authentic self. You desperately wish there was some way to find peace and acceptance, but it feels impossible. Every attempt at finding answers has proven futile. You’ve begun to wonder if you’re destined to struggle this way forever.

Reaching out for support can be hard, and you deserve to feel seen, valued, and understood. Whether you are experiencing depression, anxiety, self harm, relational or body image concerns or perfectionism, or are wanting to learn how to better support yourself as a Neurodivergent or queer person, we can craft therapeutic goals specific to your needs. My experience with Autism education and advocacy also equips me to support people who want to explore Neurodivergence as a possible identity or who have gotten a recent diagnosis and want to explore what that means for them.

I help individuals, parents, and couples transform the fear, shame, and expectations that get in the way of deep connection with others and their most authentic self. When things in our lives feel uncomfortable or scary, we often react by finding ways to disconnect from our emotions, which only leads to things like anxiety, stress, rage, negative self-talk, obsessive thoughts, grief, conflict, and ways of coping that just don't serve us. You may know something needs to change but aren't sure where to start, or you may worry that you won't be understood or accepted. I trust that you make sense and have the capacity to heal and grow.

Finding a therapist who validates and reflects core aspects of your identity can be difficult. My goal as a therapist is to create a safe space for you to feel accepted, respected, and understood. I appreciate working with a diverse group of clients, especially individuals from marginalized and underserved communities (BIPOC, LGBTQ+). As a perfectionist, overachieving woman, you have worked hard to get to where you are today. But even with all your achievements, you still feel a sense of emptiness inside, that something is missing. You constantly push yourself to be better and achieve more, but it never seems like enough. You struggle with feelings of self-doubt, anxiety, and overwhelm, and find it difficult to turn off your thoughts and relax. You feel like you are constantly on the brink of burn out. You may have unresolved childhood trauma that continues to impact you. You know something needs to change, you just aren't sure of what or how.

I am continually amazed by humans. When faced with change, loss, fear, and trauma, they are able to pivot and experience growth, peace, joy, strength, and resilience. I’m here to provide a safe space for you to come to find the ladder. Having the opportunity to lead clients towards this good in their lives is the reason I became a Clinician. I bring my whole self to sessions and I ask that my clients do the same. I don’t pretend to be a professional robot and, because of this, you will most likely see me cry, cringe, laugh, and feel your feelings right along beside you. This is how we build, this is how we grow - I'm happy to help.

If I had to pick a single driving belief in my life thus far, it’s the importance of hope. Finding hope for yourself and for the people around you can make all the difference in your life’s journey. I have always felt a calling to help people in whatever ways they needed, from dealing with life’s stressors to finding hope again. I try to incorporate creativity and laughter into my counseling to help build up and empower my clients throughout their therapeutic journey.

Do you have a hard time relating to other people? Does it take a long time for you to calm down when you become upset? Are you having a hard time dealing with change and life transitions? Have you had difficult childhood or family experiences that you want to unpack? You might feel easily overwhelmed by things that result in you feeling trapped by your emotions. You also might have a hard time trusting other people out of fear of being abandoned or hurt. This makes it hard for you to open up about your problems to others out of fear of being a burden.

The clients I've been most effective with have been those with what I call 'blurry trauma,' which is early attachment experiences that were less than affirming. That kind of trauma leads to addiction, less than fulfilling relationships, and difficulty harnessing the resources needed to navigate change so the client can create their most authentic life and relationships.

How can I find a therapist in Nashville?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
