Therapists for Teens and Adolescents in Nashville, TN
I work with adolescents and adults who have experiences of developmental trauma, dissociation including DID and OSDD, and non-ordinary states.
Do you sometimes feel sad without fully understanding why? Does your mind or body long for rest but feel stuck in shutdown or overdrive? Do you feel self-critical, protective, angry, or self-sabotaging while also longing for closeness, gentleness, and care? Is it hard at times to feel connected and comfortable in your relationships? Are you seeking healing from developmental trauma, complicated grief, or relational wounds?
If so, you’re not alone– these are deeply human experiences. Therapy can be a supportive place to gently sort through what feels overwhelming, at a pace that feels right for you.

It can be difficult to understand the patterns that contribute to our pain, but the process can be easier with the help of an unbiased therapist. My individual clients are seeking support with their daily anxiety and want to build self-love and acceptance. We work together to create goals and actionable steps to restore peace within. With couples, I focus on premarital therapy to ensure couples are aligned, as well as therapy after a breach of trust like infidelity. I enjoy working with couples to address negative communication patterns and to restore trust. My clients tend to be motivated to change, and I am there to guide.

With teens and adults I use a person-centered approach, which means I support clients in discovering their own unique needs, empower them to solve their own problems, and encourage them in reaching their personal goals.
Hi, my name is Sallie! I see clients ages 3 years and up who are struggling with a range of issues like anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, life transitions, behavioral problems, relationship concerns and trauma. Asking for help is difficult, whether it’s for yourself or your child, but my goal in therapy is to build a genuine connection with clients so that they may feel seen, heard, and understood. Many of my clients are neurodivergent, including those with ADHD, ASD, and AuDHD, so I prioritize fostering age-appropriate understanding, self-awareness, and acceptance across a broad spectrum of neurodivergent experiences.

If you feel stuck in anxiety, emotional overwhelm, numbness, or reactivity—even though you understand yourself—your nervous system may still be holding onto past experiences. Many people come to therapy knowing why they struggle, yet feel their body reacting as if the past is happening now. I help people work with these patterns gently and effectively by addressing them where they live: in the body and nervous system. Using Brainspotting, EMDR, and Internal Family Systems (IFS), we work at a pace that feels safe, collaborative, and respectful so real change can happen—not just insight, but relief.

If you’re navigating one of life’s “what now?” moments, you’re not alone—and you’re in the right place. Maybe you’re grieving the loss of someone close, a friendship that faded, or a version of life that didn’t turn out as you expected. Maybe your past—childhood experiences, family dynamics, or a painful relationship—is still shaping how you show up today. Or maybe you feel stuck in the in-between: not quite where you were, not quite where you want to be. These transitions can feel overwhelming and uncertain, but you don’t have to navigate them alone.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
