Hello, I'm Icy! (Yes, that's my REAL name, haha). I'm a former teacher and pediatric psychiatric hospital social worker turn therapist. I'm full of energy and it works in my favor because I'm a "17 and under" magnet and I absolutely adore all things children! As a clinician at Radical Change Therapy, I partner with parents who are concerned about how their toddler, child, pre- teen , or teen is connecting with family members and their peers, and/or how they’re managing in school and/or social environments. My experience in mental health/trauma, my background in the classroom, and my personality collide to create results for families!

It's a wild time we're living in. While our brains and bodies are wonderfully adaptive and move us towards healing, sometimes we need someone to partner with us through that process of growth and restoration. Therapy creates the perfect space for that, and I would love to chat with you about how I might be able to join you on your journey! The therapeutic relationship is the most important factor for change in therapy, so finding the perfect fit is crucial. I have experience working with clients of all ages on issues such as trauma, anxiety, grief, perfectionism, work burnout, and adolescent issues.

I have a passion for working with adolescent girls, student-athletes, and adult women.
My conviction to help others was born out of my own experiences in life’s most difficult seasons. I learned that growth, depth, and hope only come from when others walk alongside of you. My desire is to bring this experience to individuals who are needing help because I know how valuable and necessary it is to have someone along the way. Through a collaborative relationship, I aim to be a tool and resource to help shine light where you are experiencing darkness by tailoring to your specific needs and goals.

I specialize in Adolescent , Young Adult and Men's issues.
Understanding that for most, making the decision to enter therapy is a difficult step, it is essential that I not only connect and relate, but I provide a degree of noticeable relief or insight within the first session. This is especially true with adolescents, young adults and men, who tend to be resistant at the onset of the therapy process. I meet my clients where they are at, build upon their strengths to address their struggles, establish mutually agreed upon goals, and become an advocate for their overall growth and well-being. I am affirming, but direct in my approach.

Sometimes, your teen has experienced a traumatic event or is just having difficulty navigating life’s changes, such as divorce; the death of a family member; adoption; or adjusting to school, friends, and their self-identity. Communicating how they feel, especially to their parents, is not a teen ’s strong point. As a result, both the teen and parents become frustrated. Adolescence is a significant life transition. Without some guidance (or interpreter), the process becomes a rocky road for all involved.

I love to work with clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, substance use disorders, low self esteem/self compassion, and histories of trauma. Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
