Sometimes difficult thoughts, feelings, and experiences take us away from the life we want to live. It may not seem clear how therapy can help. I provide a non-judgmental and secure space where, together, we can clarify your goals and develop a treatment plan. My approach to therapy is grounded in evidence-based clinical practices. Combining behavioral and mindfulness-based modalities, including
Acceptance
and Commitment Therapy and Exposure and Response Prevention, I help clients develop insight and take action in order to live engaged, meaningful lives.

My approach is trauma-informed and incorporates a variety of evidenced-based treatments with a particular focus on
Acceptance
and Commitment Therapy (
ACT
) and Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Congratulations on taking this step in your journey towards health and healing. It is my goal to help create a safe, nonjudgemental space for my clients to build a more compassionate relationship with their own pain and suffering. When we take a more compassionate and loving stance with our own pain, we can then begin to feel more empowered to move towards the things that we most deeply value and desire in life. You matter, your voice matters, your pain matters. It would be my honor to walk with you on your journey.

I see therapy as the process of realizing that we have more choices than we thought we did. I am guided by the belief that every human being is worthy and capable of change, and that connection is the epicenter of human healing. As such, I strive to create a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust, support and
acceptance
. It takes bravery to seek help, and I feel honored to walk alongside my clients. I recognize the validity of all gender identities and expressions, sexual orientations, races and religions and aim to create relationships/spaces with my clients in which they feel free and safe to be themselves.

Acceptance
and commitment therapy is a form of psychotherapy, as well as a branch of clinical behavior analysis, that uses
acceptance
and mindfulness strategies along with commitment and behavior-change strategies to increase psychological flexibility.
I named my practice Acorn Villa, because a villa represents a place where we feel comfortable and secure; the acorn represents change and growth. Just as the oak tree is waiting in the tiny acorn to grow into greatness, we too have the ability to grow into our greatest possible self. In order to cultivate the growth needed to thrive, we need to feel secure and supported. Acorn Villa is a place for learning new behaviors, cultivating positive change, and planning for successful futures...a place for change and growth. I want to support individuals in those difficult phases of life where they face challenges.

I tend to use mindfulness-based interventions, such as
Acceptance
and Commitment Therapy (
ACT
) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
I value working with individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts and symptoms of commonly associated concerns, such as depression, anxiety, and trauma. If you are looking for a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and multicultural approach in therapy, we will be a good fit! I love to blend the nerdy science of psychology with humility and humor to support you in building a more meaningful life.

I use Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT),
Acceptance
and Commitment Therapy (
ACT
), Eye Movement and Desensitization (EMDR), and CBT.
With over twelve years as a practicing therapist, I am currently licensed in Tennessee and Colorado. I have helped clients: improve anxiety levels, self esteem, depression, relational issues, phobias, lack of a sense of life direction, sleep, and more. Through teaching skills such as noticing and being with sensations, feelings, and thoughts, clients are able to notice the patterns that get us stuck. Those with trauma see reductions in their PTSD symptoms, often using EMDR.

"Care is a state in which something does matter; it is the source of human tenderness" - Rollo May. Making space for ourselves to practice self-care, to care about others, and to live fully in the moment are areas of exploration that can be helpful in seeking healing in the space of therapy. One of my beloved aspects of being a therapist is having conversations about life and helping others grow into their full potential. Together, we create and grow this safe space in our therapeutic relationship, in order for you to share some of your most joyous moments or some of your darkest times.

My therapeutic approach is attachment based and utilizes Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative,
ACT
, and CBT.
Therapy is not about becoming a "better person". The process isn't something that you "work harder" at or "do more" of. You are already a person of inherent beauty, depth, and value. Together, let's courageously step deeper into the unique person that you were created to be.

My biggest hope is that you find healing and rest through working with me, and while I strive to meet you where you’re at and provide counseling based upon that, I use an attachment based approach along with EFT, ERP,
ACT
, and DBT modalities.
It’s taken me a long time to write this because I desperately wanted my bio to communicate my heart for counseling, people, and the work that I do, but I also feel that words fall short when you’re trying to communicate something so intimate. First of all, you are brave for taking a step toward deeper healing, and I am honored that you might consider me as a support alongside you in your journey. Whether this is your first time seeking counseling or your 10th time, I hope to encourage and help empower you in your fight to become who you want to be. Whatever next step you decide to take, I hope the best for you.

I'm not a passive therapist— I roll up my sleeves and give you tangible strategies to deal more effectively in the moment with difficult experiences, thoughts, and feelings.

I am drawn to
Acceptance
and Commitment Therapy (
ACT
) and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which both focus on awareness of emotions and behaviors.
Life is hard, emotions are confusing and difficult to navigate, so why do it alone? Through the years my passion to help navigate difficult situations has grown larger, I would be honored to help you "grow through what you go through" in a safe environment. I aim to create a place of security to identify concerns, build a management tool box for the future and face the hard stuff. It is important to be aware that you are in charge; meaning treatment plans, goals and sorrows will be experienced on your own timeline.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
