I also have a heart for working with individuals and
couples
who have a child/children with special needs.
I believe that therapy is a unique opportunity to have a safe and empathic place to share one's story. It is a privilege for me to journey alongside others as they discover who they are in the midst of that story. I approach therapy in an eclectic manner, and have experience in a variety of therapeutic issues. I work with both individuals and
couples
interested in seeking treatment for depression, anxiety, relational distress, conflict resolution, and personal growth.

As an EFT trained professional, I use attachment theory to help individuals and
couples
explore their emotional experiences and needs with themselves and with others.
It is my dream and honor to help clients who feel stuck in some way in their lives and relationships work towards health, wholeness, and growth. This "stuck" feeling may show up in many different areas in life, such as relational disconnection and conflict, recurring family-of-origin issues, struggles with anxiety and depression, or generally feeling like you're at a crossroads. I firmly believe that relational wounds can only heal in
relationship
. Therefore, I am dedicated to creating and fostering the safe and secure therapeutic space needed for my clients to begin the hard work of looking deeper and working towards health.

I am no different than you. I too have grieved and felt lost and struggled at times. I too have sought compassionate presence when I needed it most. And that's what gives me the ability to connect with my clients. I truly believe that we are all in this together. There are many helpful treatment approaches which I and other therapists utilize, but ultimately I have seen healing and growth take place in the context of therapeutic
relationship
and presence. That is what I am committed to bringing to those I serve.

I work with individuals and
couples
from diverse backgrounds and lifestyles.
We all have an innate capacity to create a sense of well-being. Yet, the demands of our lives---difficult relationships, losses, disappointments, transitions---can cause feelings of helplessness or even despair. Vitality falls way to depression or anxiety or addictive behaviors. Therapy can be useful to better understand and manage the complexities of your life; to reclaim some vitality; to love, work, and play in ways that are more congruent with who you strive to be. With twenty five years of experience, I offer seasoned and compasssionate guidance as you define your specific goals and work toward inhabiting a truer version of yourself.

I specialize in working with adolescents, adults, and
couples
dealing with a range of issues such as depression, anxiety,
relationship
issues, self-esteem, life transitions, trauma, PTSD, and grief and loss.
As a therapist, I work with people who are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or looking to make some sort of change (in life, relationships, unhealthy habits or behaviors, etc.). I work primarily from a relational-cultural approach, which means that my focus is on the therapeutic
relationship
, authenticity, and perhaps most importantly, collaboration. Content related to the past, present, and future are each considered to be sources of valuable information, as are thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I value creativity and a sense of humor in my work with clients; your experience is yours alone and as such, your treatment will be individually tailored to your needs.

Research shows that the
relationship
between you and your therapist is paramount, and as this goes, so goes therapeutic progress.
The decision to begin therapy is one that requires courage and a desire to improve one’s life. As we navigate a series of crises unlike anything we have experienced in our lifetime, therapy has become even more important as a source of support for the challenges we confront. Having a trusted helper can make a significant difference in our lives. No matter what you are going through, I have years of experience helping people cultivate more fulfilling lives. Additionally, it is my purpose to be an ally to and a safe space for the disenfranchised in the Queer, Black, Latinx, Asian, immigrant, Jewish, Muslim, and atheist communities.

I provide individualized support tailored to my clients' unique stories. I use expressive arts therapy and dance/movement therapy techniques in addition to client-centered talk therapy to engage with clients as we process in both the verbal and non-verbal realms. The body and mind are interconnected and the body can be used as a map guiding explorations of the self, as well as a metaphor to express emotions which can be difficult to convey in words alone. Through a therapeutic
relationship
, I provide empathic support and playful intervention.

Whether through individual work,
couples
therapy, or even parent coaching, I love helping others break free from cycles of anxiety, depression, shame, and fear that trauma can create.
If you have experienced complex trauma, generational trauma, secondary trauma, medical trauma, religious trauma, or narcissistic abuse, you may have struggled to gain the support that you deserve due to the fact that there are still many types of trauma that are under-recognized. I have a passion for using creativity, authentic connection, and even evidence based research on the ways that trauma and chronic stress impact the brain, to individualize therapy for your unique strengths and goals. My commitment to individualizing care also includes neurodiversity training and experience working with those on the autism spectrum.

Hello, I’m Alyssa. I believe that we are each on a journey through life, and that this journey includes both beauty and brokenness. That brokenness can lead to things such as unhelpful thought patterns, mood changes, and
relationship
stress. In our therapy work together, I intend to validate your experiences, meet you where you are, and help you change ways of thinking and behaving that are keeping you stuck and preventing you from living the full, authentic life you hope for. My areas of special interest include anxiety, depression, relational stress/conflict, life transitions, perfectionism, codependence, grief, and trauma.

I am currently working with adults ages 18 and up seeking individual or
couples
therapy.
"Do you see me? Do you hear me? Does what I say mean anything to you?" This is something Oprah Winfrey believes every person wants to know, and I couldn't agree more. I am so glad you're here. Reaching out for support can be hard sometimes. Being vulnerable enough to show up for ourselves and allow another person to witness that is a courageous thing. Whether you're here because someone suggested you try therapy, you've been in therapy for decades or you're somewhere in between, I'm ready to listen. And not only am I here to listen, I'm here to support and challenge you to do that hard thing or even finally face that fear.

I find that the counseling
relationship
is the most important part of therapy.
I specialize in seeing college-aged and young adults. There is so much uncertainty right now. Feeling like you are supposed to have everything together during these times is challenging. You are grieving the loss of school or work as you know it, while trying to adjust to the new “normal.” Whatever you are feeling is completely valid. I genuinely would love to help you find some stability and normalcy while giving you tools to make everything feel a little easier and less stressful.

We are meant to live in relational wholeness. The therapist-client
relationship
is based on trust. In a warm and welcoming environment – free of judgement – you will have the opportunity to be fully seen and heard, safe to share your struggles. This is an invitation to simply show up and sit amidst kindness and gentleness, to uncover, identify, and process what lies beneath the heart’s pain.

Counseling is a journey that deepens over time through the crucible of
relationship
.
I work with clients wanting to heal from all kinds of painful experiences and challenges in their lives. Often what brings someone into therapy, their current struggles, are symptoms of an underlying unresolved experience which has thrown life out of balance. Anxiety and depression, for example, frequently are a pattern of being stuck in a state of imbalance, following a significant loss, heartbreak or trauma. The goal of therapy is to restore the natural integrity and balance within clients, empowering them to lead creative and fulfilling lives.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
