I am passionate about working with clients presenting with eating disorders, and co-occurring disorders such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and other
women's issues
. In my practice, I use a treatment model that is evidence-based and eclectic, as I believe each client's needs vary. These models include, but are not limited to, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, and Acceptance Commitment Therapy. Beginning the journey to recovery from an eating disorder is difficult and one that requires courage-I strive to create an environment that is built on a foundation of trust for this process.

No one is exempt from hardship, struggle, stress or difficulty. In this life we all experience situations and circumstances that are at times beyond our control. I wholeheartedly believe that we are all born with the ability to heal ourselves but that at times we could use a helping hand. Everyone needs a safe supportive space that will allow them to reconnect with themselves. Everyone needs a place that nurtures a sense of emotional well-being and that will allow them to more openly explore pain, release blocks and heal wounds. Nashville Emotional Wellness (NEW) Counseling is this place.

Centered in honesty and compassion, I will work with you to gain a deeper understanding of working through internal and current difficulties, help nurture your capacity for change, and acquire practical skills to shift the patterns of thought, feeling, and behavior that inhibits your growth and a more positive engagement in life and relationships.

Overwhelmed and stressed by the thought of being "Superwoman" again? Time after time, you find yourself rescuing others and putting others before you. Leaving absolutely no time for yourself. Tired of constantly being the "Strong One?" Leaving yourself feeling drained and unfulfilled. At work, you go above and beyond but it goes unnoticed. At home, your days are filled with tasks that take up your entire day but you still feel unappreciated. Personally, you have told yourself that staying busy, overextending yourself and being the "Strong One" equals your success, value and worth.

I believe that relationships are the foundation of our functioning. Relationships give us a multitude of places that can be fraught with difficulties, opportunities for conflict, and certainly come with a frequent and sometimes intense ebb and flow of emotions. Each of these relationships continue to help us as we learn and grow, becoming ever more insightful and healthy people. Whether you need a supportive and listening ear, a fresh perspective, or someone to help you learn and implement new skills, I’m here to help.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
