My experience in the Veteran's Administration (combat soldiers and military sexual
trauma
) has given me some of my best training and life experience.
As a CBT and DBT Psychologist, National Speaker, hospital consultant, and clinical supervisor for Vanderbilt University, I have successfully helped veterans, teens, psychologists, physicians, attorneys, students, celebrities, and homemakers feel better and improve their lives. My business, PSYCHē, PLLC is founded upon the belief that going the extra mile makes all the difference. People need real support and real solutions--not just a nod and concerned look. My job is to help--my clients tell me how.

My clients are often those struggling with anxiety, self-worth, and life transitions/adjustments. I also have particular specialities and experience with grief, substance addictions or those who are the loved one of a person with addictions, and
trauma
. When you read the word "
trauma
" it doesn't have to mean only abuse, car accidents, etc. There are various stressful life experiences that register as
trauma
, such as divorce, neglect/abandonment, health related issues and diagnoses, miscarriages, and many more. All that is needed from you is a desire to be present in the counseling space. The rest we walk through together.

Two values I strive for in the therapy room are understanding and security. When you walk through my door, I want you to feel the kind of safety that allows you to get cozy on the sofa and take a deep breath before diving into what matters most to you. Throughout the process, my hope is that all parts of you - those you love and know well and those that you struggle with or push away in your daily life - feel welcome, seen, appreciated, and understood. My clients are primarily adult individuals and low-conflict couples, who hope to find healing and connection within themselves and with others.

I offer years of experience providing individual and group counseling, including work with survivors of
trauma
, at-risk youth, individuals struggling with grief/loss, anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation/self-harm.
One of my very favorite quotes by Brene Brown is, "Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren't always comfortable, but they are never weakness." As life will sometimes present challenges that may be difficult to navigate, it's not necessary to navigate those challenges alone. I would love to support you in discovering the courage to navigate your truth. As a Certified Clinical
Trauma
Professional, I offer treatment that is goal oriented using a variety of therapeutic approaches.

Anxiety, depression, and stuck life patterns are usually symptoms of various forms of
trauma
, which can render life anywhere from terrifying to dull and deadening, to anything in between.
Welcome. Whether you are struggling in your relationship or are tired of feeling anxious and depressed, I can help you connect with yourself, and in turn with others, in a new way toward feeling better soon. I honor and respect everything within you, in the midst of your search and struggle, which has brought you here. I really get how lonely, desperate, hopeless feeling or even numbing, that struggle can be. I have an MA in Integral Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco — the first program in the world to blend Western schools of psychology with Eastern spiritual traditions.

In order to accomplish this goal, I am trained in various
trauma
-specific treatments that I combine with other therapeutic approaches to assist clients to live more happy, joyous, and free.
Psychologist M. Scott Peck wrote in his besting selling work 'The Road Less Traveled' that "The attempt to avoid legitimate suffering lies at the root of all emotional illness." I have found this to be true in both my professional and personal life. My goal as a
trauma
-focused therapist to is assist clients to move into their emotional pain rather than away from it with the belief that the only way out of suffering is through.

I am passionate about working with all genders ages 16 and older, with a particular interest in complex
trauma
, anxiety, depression, religious
trauma
, and culturally sensitive therapy.
I was raised in the diverse melting pot of NYC as a first-generation Chinese American, born to parents who emigrated from Hong Kong. After college, I moved to Nashville, where I had the wonderful privilege of traveling the world as a musician. These experiences afforded me the unique opportunity to hear thousands of people’s stories—from depression, suicide, grief, and addiction to hope found amidst it all. Through these stories, as well as my own, I came to realize the powerful gift of therapy and the difference that occurs when one comes to understand their intrinsic worth and their capacity to be seen, heard, known, and loved.

At the core of

and grief is a person.
NOTE: Email is the quickest way to reach me. If you call, please leave a name. Are you going through something that others do not seem to get or understand? Does a loss seem to be affecting you far more than the "normal stages" of grief? Perhaps you find that you cannot get past certain images in your mind of a moment in your life. Time and time again you are not able to find relief. On top of that, others do not seem to understand why you are affected so deeply. You struggle to communicate the thoughts and feelings that consume you.

As we walk through life, we accumulate stories: about ourselves, others, how to trust and love and relate. Some stories provide a solid foundation for healthy relationships with others and ourselves, and help us move through this world with confidence. Unfortunately, some stories hold us back from satisfying relationships and/or reaching our true potential. My ideal client is ready to begin exploring the life chapters that could use a re-write. I look forward to helping you re-write your stories and empowering you to be the hero of your tale: a hero who is self-determined, confident, and secure in relationship with others.

I am also a
trauma
specialist, so when sexual or intimacy issues are connected to
trauma
, I can assist in providing resolution.
It can be embarrassing, painful and debilitating to have intimacy or sexual problems. It may be due to physical problems, aging, sexual abuse, strict upbringing, assault or for an unknown reason. You or someone you love may live with out of control pornography or sexual behavior or addiction. You may have difficulty forming a long term intimate relationship with someone and not understand why. You may be looking for solutions and believe no one will understand or you may believe your situation is hopeless. You are looking for healthy intimacy and sexuality in your relationship and may not be sure why this is so difficult.

My experience includes working with adult clients who have experienced
trauma
or addiction directly or within their family systems.
My mission is to create a safe space for individuals to find healing, freedom, and self-acceptance. I am passionate about helping my clients regain confidence while beginning to love and trust themselves. I help my clients unlearn negative beliefs and begin to change relationship patterns that no longer serve them. I work well with people pleasers, people who struggle to set boundaries, or people who chronically sacrifice themselves for others. When we are able to know what we need and set limits in our relationships, we enhance our emotional well-being and our relationships become healthier.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
