What is your story? The question seems simple, but it isn’t. Your story is comprised of your life’s experiences from your perspective. Our stories contain themes of joy, excitement love, life and heartbreak, fear, anger and
loss
. With the demands of daily life such as career or relationships, it can be difficult to engage in being the author of your story. Who is narrating your story? Are negative thoughts dictating your self-image? Is your anxiety controlling your narrative? Or is your sadness causing you to stare at a blank page? Ultimately, everyone deserves a better story.

At the core of trauma and
grief
is a person.
NOTE: Email is the quickest way to reach me. If you call, please leave a name. Are you going through something that others do not seem to get or understand? Does a
loss
seem to be affecting you far more than the "normal stages" of
grief
? Perhaps you find that you cannot get past certain images in your mind of a moment in your life. Time and time again you are not able to find relief. On top of that, others do not seem to understand why you are affected so deeply. You struggle to communicate the thoughts and feelings that consume you.

One of my very favorite quotes by Brene Brown is, "Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren't always comfortable, but they are never weakness." As life will sometimes present challenges that may be difficult to navigate, it's not necessary to navigate those challenges alone. I would love to support you in discovering the courage to navigate your truth. As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, I offer treatment that is goal oriented using a variety of therapeutic approaches.

Life happens and life can be challenging. As the years go by, those challenges continue to evolve and shift – particularly when we move from one chapter of our lives to the next. These transitions can be opportunities to take a fresh look at where we are, how we got there and where we'd like to go from here. While going through that process, it can help to have support. Whether you're navigating major life shifts, struggling but still trying to figure out why, or just not sure where/how to start, you can take your time. There are lots of people here who can help.

All humans know
loss
.
Healing, improving, achieving goals, and finding purpose in life are foremost in human thought. Developing your own tools and skills will improve your ability to be mindful, to regulate emotions, to tolerate distress, and to be effective in your relationships. Teaching these skills for the past 12 years has improved my own ability to navigate life's challenges. Learning these skills builds confidence, assurance of self, and opens alternatives to getting out of the immediate stuck pattern of thoughts and actions you find yourself in.

I'm eager to walk alongside men and women as they share their stories of hope and disappointment; of love and
loss
; of joy and pain; of denial and acceptance; of brokenness and redemption.
Beginning a new career after over three decades in corporate management and leadership roles, I am a testament that it’s never too late to consider a new path! I believe the therapeutic journey is a spirit-led process, one that is motivated by the inevitable suffering of the human condition and, simultaneously, driven by the desires and passions of our uniquely inherent, though often hidden or distorted, authentic selves.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
