I value working with individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts and symptoms of commonly associated concerns, such as depression, anxiety, and trauma. If you are looking for a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and multicultural approach in therapy, we will be a good fit! I love to blend the nerdy science of psychology with humility and humor to support you in building a more meaningful life.

Being human. Along with the beautiful parts of life comes pain, struggle, and trauma. Everyone deserves a safe person with whom they can address these things and achieve real healing. Real relief. My first goal when beginning work with clients is to create that place where they can be their authentic selves...and feel accepted. To give them unconditional support without judgement. With this relationship formed, the deeper and holistic work can begin. Healing can happen. If you're struggling with self-esteem, trauma, mood disorders, substance use...or just struggling at all, we can work together to help you find peace.

It’s possible to find your spark for life again! I am passionate about helping people heal from their pasts, rediscover their authenticity, and create a life worth living – all while learning how to ride the waves of life instead of being completely knocked down by them. Our life experiences can create pain, suffering, and an undercurrent of dread and anxiety that keeps us from living the life we want. At times it can feel like we are just barely getting by from moment to moment in a panicked fear, and other times it can feel like operating on autopilot – depressed, disconnected, and numb.

Asking for help is sometimes difficult, and also powerful. Daily struggles with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, intrusive thoughts can become overwhelming. Complex trauma, substance use, eating disorders, unhealthy relationships, are among a few that can also keep us from our authentic self. In order to survive through all of this and keep going, it is common to adapt in ways that end up no longer working. We need help. That help comes from recognizing the gifts we have in ourselves and getting the gifts of others. My gift is to help others with aligning the head and the heart while healing to recognize authentic self.

Life is too short to stay stuck in behaviors, relationships, and patterns that detract rather than enhance our lives. At some point in all of our lives, we are likely to find ourselves stagnant and in need of a change, unsure which direction to go in a time of transition, or just dissatisfied and maybe not even sure why. It can be difficult to know where and how to begin the journey to change and growth. Or even to know what you want that change to be right now. If this resonates with you, know that you are not the only one!

You do not have to live the way you’ve always lived. The suffering does not have to persist. You can choose yourself. This thing called life offers unexpected obstacles that cause a course change. Therapy enables us to feel empowered to overcome our barriers. We must self-search and manage internal issues to obtain that empowered position. There is no point to a bandaid approach, so we would work on the deeper issues that cause presenting problems, like unhealthy attachments and trauma. These are the source of anxious thinking, depression, and addictions. I am EMDR trained, which helps us to address the original issues.

Hi, I’m Matt (he/him). I am trained as a Marriage and Family Therapist, which means I think a lot about how relationships shape our experience. This certainly includes relationships with partners, family, and friends, but also our relationships with self and the systems in which we live. Finding balance and harmony in these relationships can be challenging, if not overwhelming. I count it as a joy and privilege to be invited to ally with you in this pursuit.

There is a stigma that seeking counseling is weak or only for those who are going through “really hard things” - both of those statements are simply not true. Taking time to focus on who you are and pouring into your mental health is a great way to love yourself. With that being said, it takes a great amount of vulnerability, humility, courage, and hope to open up to someone about things you may have never talked to anyone about before. My desire as a counselor is to build trust and help you feel safe and comfortable as we work together.

The transition into parenthood is more complex than we could ever imagine. We are often not prepared for the variety of challenges we could face – fertility issues, pregnancy/infant loss, postpartum depression/anxiety, traumatic birth, or trouble feeling connected to a new baby. For others, growing up in a tumultuous home can cause them to question if they are “cut out” for parenting or childhood wounds suddenly surface after the birth of a new child. As kids age, parenting can become challenging in ways not expected and support can be immensely helpful. Caregiver burnout is real and it can happen at any stage in parenting.

I have always said a willing client is my favorite kind of client. It is likely you do not want to feel unwanted emotions, you don't even have to engage in self-improvement but the question is... are you willing to take a leap of faith towards personal healing?

My conviction to help others was born out of my own experiences in life’s most difficult seasons. I learned that growth, depth, and hope can come when others walk alongside of you. My desire is to create this experience for women who are needing help because I know how valuable and necessary it is to have someone supporting you along the way. Through a collaborative relationship, I aim to be a tool and resource to help shine light where you are experiencing darkness by tailoring to your specific needs and goals.

Accepting new clients in Tennessee. I'm glad you're reaching out and hope we can work together. I've been an LCSW for 28 years and genuinely love connecting with people to develop skills that find greater stability, serenity and internal strength. Emphasizing strengths and resilience, while understanding larger patterns, working through trauma and developing skills to reduce anxiety, emotional reactions, relationship breakdown, substance abuse and overwhelm. I love building relationships with people to learn practices that can change self defeating patterns and live in a way that is more life giving, open, balanced and stable.

How can I find a therapist in Germantown, Nashville?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
