Accepting New Clients - If you are in need of someone to help you sort out all the things you are facing, I'd love to be that person for you. Life is hard and you shouldn't have to do it alone. If you are facing a tough diagnosis (for yourself or someone you love), a recent miscarriage, an abusive relationship, or even just a difficult adjustment to something new (like divorce or an empty nest) come sit with me and let's talk. My counseling style is friendly and informal. My office is a feet-on-the-furniture, wrap-up-in-a-blanket kind of place where we'll work together to face the hard stuff.

I am a counselor who believes the counseling process is based on the relationship between client and therapist. I work very hard to hear what you are saying and to "get you." My role is not to tell you what to do, but to be with you on your journey of self-exploration and healing. I am passionate about my work and especially about those who have experienced
trauma
or who have been deeply affected by relational issues. As we work together, it is my hope that you will be able to move forward with greater perspective and less " baggage."

We all face challenges in life, but we do not have to face them alone. It is important to be able to communicate our feelings and needs in a safe environment. And sometimes, we need a guide to help us navigate the difficult inner territory that stands between us and our best selves. I seek to create a safe space where you can heal and grow, and to help you work through the struggles, losses and wounds that keep you from thriving.

I specialize in helping those who suffer from past
Trauma and PTSD
.
The biggest reason many don't seek counseling is the fear of reliving the past. Forward facing
trauma
therapy proves you don't always have to go back to move forward. There is a different way. There is a better way. We start with the symptoms of the present. Then look at how
trauma
affects the brain and changes how we, think, feel, and behave here in the present. Learning how to fix and reset the brain while decreasing symptoms is our goal at Sessions of Serenity. Done at your pace, in a way that helps restore safety, creates calm and empowers the client. Your past does not have to continue robbing you of your future.

I also specialize in working with people who have experienced
trauma
in their lives, whether it is recent or long ago.
I enjoy working with people. At times we all think about a past mistake, a missed opportunity, or an undesirable choice. But if you are constantly looking back with a nagging and paralyzing sense of regret, you may not be able to see or enjoy what is good about your life today. If you are looking in the rearview mirror of life, you are not living in the present, and you may have given up on the future. You may not see the steps in front of you through which to change your life for the better.

I specialize in working with different types of
trauma
and mood disorders.
Sometimes clients can feel stuck in “survival mode”, which can keep them from fully engaging in their lives. I am passionate about empowering my clients to see they have options in their lives and ensure they are able to regain a sense of self. I believe such empowerment allows clients to create better connections with others and have compassion for themselves. It can be exhausting to feel like you have to be “fine” all the time, especially during a difficult season of life. I offer a safe space for you to come in and heal.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
