I host a podcast for Christians called Hope for Anxiety and
OCD
, so I have a specific understanding of some of the barriers that keep Christians from getting clinical mental health treatment.
Are you tired of rehashing your life story, gaining insight, yet life still looks the same? Maybe it's time for a different approach. With 15 years of experience, I can help you get to the root of the issue with EMDR therapy, so you don't have to continue to be stuck. Your story matters, but if you don't address the nervous system, you might not get very far. I encourage clients who have had previous therapy to consider an EMDR intensive to dedicate time for their brain to heal without having to go in and out of traumatic memories on a weekly basis.

I am a college and anxiety specialist that helps with stress, worry, panic attacks, and
OCD
symptoms.
If you are like many of my clients, you are a young adult that works hard. But like them, you are worried all the time. You have had some panic attacks. You are overwhelmed and stressed out. You want good grades and good relationships. You want to stop feeling overwhelmed and stop saying to yourself "I need to get my act together". You just want to know that you are making the right decisions for your future. Like you, my clients experience anxiety and they work with me because they want to stop feeling like they aren't good enough all of the time.

I am eager to work with any client who wants to pursue long-term, meaningful change in their life. I have a particular passion and expertise in working with survivors of trauma and clients who are experiencing the effects of deeply- rooted, unhelpful beliefs about themselves. I am passionate about helping clients build (or rebuild) their self-esteem and sense of self-worth as well as helping them replace outdated defense mechanisms with healthy coping skills. I also am experienced in working with treatment resistant depression, anxiety, and
OCD
.

Developmentally in the US, we begin to truly form our identity as teenagers, but sometimes that gets stunted for one reason or another. I want to be able to walk by your side while you discover and choose who you want to be at whatever age that may happen. Anxiety, depression, and
OCD
are other issues I focus on.

Life gets hard. Period. Every person has a unique sort of hard, but it's hard all the same. For some of us, it's a single event that changes the trajectory of our lives. For others of us, it's a series of traumatic experiences, decisions, disappointments, or relationship betrayals that result in emotional distress. A sense that life just isn't what it was (and perhaps never will be again) develops and suddenly, "hard" feels BIGGER. Maybe you're struggling with debilitating anxiety, relationship issues, spirituality concerns, or that thick and lingering cloud of depression. Whatever your hard is, you aren't alone.

My passion is to help the people who have spent their lives helping others. I recently retired after 27 years in the fire service and believe this experience makes me uniquely equipped to help first responders. My practice is trauma based and I offer EMDR to help deal with the trauma in the lives of my clients. While I hope to work with many first responders this is not the only focus of my service. I have nearly 10 years experience in treating addictions. My practice is open to individual, couple, and group therapy.

Clients utilize my testing and evaluation services to determine the nature of their learning difficulties and to develop a treatment plan tailored to help them overcome these difficulties. Many clients receive counseling to help them to improve their school or work performance and to improve their self-esteem. Referrals are made to medical doctors if medications are deemed necessary (i.e., for ADHD, depression, etc.). Also, I am passionate about helping others with various emotional difficulties, relationship problems, and improving general life satisfaction through individual, family, and group therapies.

Personal life experiences have inspired me to help others. I have developed a deeper understanding and empathy for others that experience difficult times. I have experience working with clients that have experienced significant loss and trauma. Physical health and mental health problems, often, develop when an individual experiences high level of stress. Depression and other mental health problems may occur when individuals and families experience multiple issues. Some issues may include separation, divorce, and loss of a loved one.

In my personal and professional life, I have found one thing to be true: Life can be hard. I have a passion for supporting others in resolving pain and reclaiming fullness in life. While pain is an inevitable part of the human experience, suffering is optional. Sometimes clients can feel stuck in “survival mode”, which can keep them from fully engaging in their lives. I am passionate about empowering my clients to see they have options in their lives and ensure they are able to regain a sense of self. I believe such empowerment allows clients to create better connections with others and have compassion for themselves. It can be exhausting to feel like you have to be “fine” all the time, especially during a difficult season of life. I offer a safe space for you to come in and heal.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
