Therapy is more than talking about the past. It is a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere in which past hurts are resolved and healing takes place. Traumatic experiences can serve as blocks, preventing present and future peace. At Wilkinson Family Therapy, we enjoy connecting with our clients as they travel along their journey. Through intentionality and training, we create a comfortable, supportive space for our clients to grow and process their experiences.

Greetings- Working with families and individuals for over 20 years, It’s a honor to work with clients as well as meet them where they are in their personal journey. Every individual has a story, but not everyone knows how to give voice to it. Healing comes through having a safe place to tell the story, and a safe person to hear it. Each time I sit with a client, I am humbled by their courage. I hold each story as sacred, as together we purpose to find meaning, healing, and hope.

You do not know how to feel normal anymore. You feel trapped, hopeless, or even different than everyone around you. Your closest friends and loved ones notice that you have changed and just not your true self, but you do not even know what that looks like anymore? You want to find out who you are so you can be the best at being you. Emotions such as frustration, depression, and loneliness plague your life and its hard to see a clear picture of goals, not even goals to get through the end of the day. Take a moment to notice these feelings. Sadly enough people think “this is just life”. Well it doesn’t have to be anymore.

The biggest reason many don't seek counseling is the fear of reliving the past. Forward facing trauma therapy proves you don't always have to go back to move forward. There is a different way. There is a better way. We start with the symptoms of the present. Then look at how trauma affects the brain and changes how we, think, feel, and behave here in the present. Learning how to fix and reset the brain while decreasing symptoms is our goal at Sessions of Serenity. Done at your pace, in a way that helps restore safety, creates calm and empowers the client. Your past does not have to continue robbing you of your future.

Many of today's problems are a result of the complicated, fast-paced world in which we live; a world that threatens man's emotional stability. Clients come to counselors looking for hope. Many times they feel desperate, pursuing what seems like their last option. They are looking for someone who is kind and sensitive, but also for someone who knows how to diagnose their problems and help them improve their situation. If this is you, I am your resource. I will never provide my clients a solution that does not give the very best in me.

I see the counseling process as a path towards healing and hopefulness. I offer virtual counseling sessions for clients in the state of Tennessee. I work well with clients who are developing coping skills, working through trauma, and experiencing anxiety, stress, depression. I believe that counseling should be used as an early
intervention
to help support people who are struggling with their emotional and mental wellness. If we utilize counseling throughout our lifetime and during times of either difficulty, trauma, grief, and relationship challenges it can increase our quailty of life and enhance our wellbeing.

intervention
within the reach of any family in need.
When a family member is suffering from a substance use disorder it is of paramount importance that they receive help as soon as possible, but often times they refuse treatment. If they are to be persuaded it is crucial to approach them in a manor that will make a deep and lasting impact.

How does an intervention work?
An intervention is a planned, structured meeting in which a person’s family or friends voice concerns about the person’s behavior and its consequences; the goal is for the person to accept treatment. In this meeting, the person’s loved ones (often with the guidance of a trained interventionist) share how the person’s behavior has harmed them and the consequences if the person refuses treatment. They collectively ask the person to accept a proposed treatment plan.
How effective are interventions?
There isn’t extensive research on the efficacy of interventions, in part because success is difficult to measure. Individuals often enter addiction treatment after an intervention, for example, but treatment itself may not work, especially if the person only begins due to external pressure from others rather than due to internal motivation to change. However, if all other attempts at helping someone have failed, an intervention may be worth exploring.
What are the limitations of interventions?
While a friend or family member’s intentions are in the right place in wanting to help a loved one through an intervention, there are significant limitations to the approach. The surprising nature of the event can make the person feel ambushed or judged. They may feel embarrassed or ashamed as a result, and relationships may be strained or broken. This can make it difficult for the individual to be receptive to the concerns of their loved ones and the interventionist.
Are there alternatives to interventions?
Rather than confronting a loved one through an intervention, an effective and less pressured approach is to create space for a caring, open, one-on-one conversation. This works best if the loved one asks open-ended questions, listens attentively to the answers, and frames their observations and statements with concern rather than judgment. More than one conversation may be needed, but change can take root over time.
