I work with a variety of different presenting concerns including anxiety, depression, intrapersonal and interpersonal struggles, and stress management. My clinical interests are in family of origin, attachment issues, and working with athletes. I work from a psychodynamic, person-centered approach and integrate different modalities based on individual need to meet you where you are at to help facilitate change and reach your goals. Through building a compassionate, authentic, and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship, my clients can feel safe and vulnerable to discuss their deepest struggles.

You’ve tried everything, but your child is struggling despite your best efforts. You’re constantly managing their tear-streaked tantrums or sullen silences. “Time outs” don’t work, rewards don’t work, you want to pull your hair out sometimes. You’ve tried talking to them, but they won’t tell you what they need. You wish you could read their mind. Pain and anxiety are written all over your child’s face. You so badly want to help but don’t know how. The helplessness and guilt you feel to see them suffer are almost too much to bear. You’ll never give up searching for a way to help them. There’s nothing you wouldn’t do for your child.

I aim to create an environment that helps people feel comfortable working through issues, without fear of judgment or bias. The ideal client for me is the one that is seriously pursuing their own health and healing. While that looks different for everyone, it is something all clients must do at some point during treatment.

Education professionals, I intentionally and wholeheartedly hold space for you. The challenges and even barriers to show up in instructional environments are vast. Sometimes, they are also internal. Perfectionism, imposter syndrome, and people pleasing are just a few daily battles often faced as you navigate the many hats you balance in your professional and personal lives. Prioritizing a time for you to process your experiences can start in your own home. Virtual therapy can provide that safe space needed for processing, exploring, and nurturing our compassionate selves to combat the demands of the day.

My office is a safe place to heal from deep pain and dark secrets and resolve emotionally complex situations. I can help you move on and chart a new course. I am very relaxed and informal. I am not conventional, stuffy, or judgmental. Not churchy. I work quietly and deeply. I work well with sensitive people troubled by their minds, feelings, and personal or societal unrest. I can help you set healthier boundaries with family, work, friends, and lovers. Although I will likely retire in 2025, I will see current and previous clients and a short-term new client or two. Only telehealth appointments are open for the foreseeable future.

The focus of my psychotherapy practice has tended toward “driven” people - the high performers, hard workers, and leaders of society - who are driven to succeed. Driven people often find themselves caught in a harmful but subtle cycle. At first, their drive to succeed enables them to (over)work very hard, accomplish laudable goals, and enjoy big rewards. But the same drive also seems to entail a price tag: stressful jobs, difficult relationships, internal agonies (anxiety, depression, burnout), etc. Although survival tools - food, alcohol, love/sex, wealth, fun, etc. - can manage the pain for a while, they also entrap their users.

As your therapist, my primary focus is to provide you with a safe and non-judgmental space where you can freely express yourself and feel heard. I am dedicated to understanding the core of who you are beyond the pain and confusion, and my aim is to support you in gaining that understanding as well. Therapy serves as an opportunity to unravel limiting beliefs and cultivate new perspectives. I value utilizing various therapeutic approaches that are tailored to your specific needs, particularly exploring mind-body connections to address underlying issues.

Cayce views counseling as a sacred process that involves connection, recovery, and hope. Through her own clinical experience, she recognizes the courage it takes for clients to allow their vulnerability to overpower the paralysis of shame and fear. As Brene Brown once wrote, "You either walk into your story and own your truth, or you live outside of your story, hustling for your worthiness." Cayce's ultimate desire is to provide a safe place for you to come, be heard, and walk through your own story towards healing.

There are times in our lives when nothing makes sense. There are moments when we struggle to manage what problems come our way, when we are depressed, anxious, or unsure about what to do. There are times when our emotions seem too big for us or conversely when our unhelpful thinking becomes a barrier to our lives. Having someone to talk to about these things and help us manage our days, to put in context that event we keep going over in our minds. What we want is to find peace and acceptance of the moment. This is where talking to someone can be helpful, an outside mind to put our thoughts and emotions in perspective.

Today you took the first step in seeking help and that is a brave thing. I am honored to be one of the people you are thinking about. I believe greatly in the whole body and mind approach as well as the whole system approach. Healing is found in many arenas and therapy is a dress rehearsal for life. There a million reasons we need to get support through therapy! Relationship conflict or the end of a relationship, stress from work, anxieties of parenting, adjusting to big life changes like changing jobs or graduating college. Having a place that its all about you can be invaluable.

It has been shown time and again the relationship between client and counselor is the most important part of a therapy experience. It is always on my mind to ensure that our relationship remains entirely focused on you, but as a part of the collaborative duo that will become client and therapist I’m happy to share a bit about myself. Relationally, I have been described as down-to-earth, authentic and sincere and I enjoy laughing and celebrating with clients in the therapy space as well. With humility and curiosity I am eager to hear about your life experiences. Licensed in TN (license 3396) & Virginia (license 0701010748)
