Many experiences in life can motivate us to look for support―a difficult current or past relationship, overwhelming stress, unprocessed trauma, or maybe just a sense of being stuck. You aren't alone. My hope is that you find in me a nonjudgmental, caring presence to listen and help you process whatever pain or disconnection you might be experiencing. My aim is to guide you toward the wholeness you seek.

I utilize Gottman Method for Couples and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) to support parent/care-giving relationships.
I support individuals and couples address patterns and burdens we tend to carry in life. My hope is to be a welcoming space for you to share your story and be met where you are. My focus is creating a supportive and empathetic space along your process to navigate the experiences and challenges you may face and I believe a relational approach with collaboration and compassion is the center of healing. With curiosity, I support exploration of oneself and in relationship with others as a channel for growth.

We are created for relationship. When we are distant, things feel wrong and uncomfortable. Being disconnected from those we love brings up sadness, anxiety, depression, stress, anger. It hurts to be distant. We feel lost and alone, not able to turn to the ones we love most for comfort and care. These longings and their distressing feelings don’t just go away. In the absence of relief, we may choose other ways to cope, using distance, distractions, substances, numbing out, or isolation.

Hi I am Kendra Simmons. Taking the first step toward improving your mental wellness is something to be proud of. Therapy can feel intimidating, especially when it’s misunderstood as a sign that something is “wrong.” In truth, it’s a healthy and proactive way to care for yourself. Everyone deserves a safe place to explore their experiences, heal, and find clarity. Whether you’re preparing for marriage, feeling overwhelmed in your relationship, navigating blended family dynamics, or managing personal struggles, I offer personalized support to help you move forward.

My clients are couples or families who deeply want to feel more connected—but something just isn’t working. They’re stuck in cycles of misunderstanding, distance, and tension. Arguments repeat with no resolution. Emotional needs are going unmet, and they’re unsure how to fix it. I know that life can be complicated, and it does not come with a manual. My goal is to work with clients to face and navigate their life so that they can gain perspective and grow. My love is working with clients so they can move through this world in such a way that they can be strong mentally and in healthy families and relationships

Areas of particular focus include trauma, anxiety, and parent-child relationships.
Life gets messy sometimes. Whether it be due to trauma, a conflictual relationship, or even our own feelings that seem to come out of nowhere, there are times when we find ourselves "stuck" and wondering why we can't seem to manage at our full potential. The good news is that real and lasting change is possible. In my over fifteen years of experience, I have seen individuals and families heal, grow, and thrive at a level that surprised even themselves. If the hard stuff in life is seeming heavy, I'd love to come alongside you to help you create a path to reaching your goals.

My ideal clients are adolescents, men, and women who feel stuck in patterns they can’t seem to break. Many have been labeled “difficult,” carry deep frustration with themselves, or spend years trying to will themselves into change, only to feel like they are the problem when their efforts don’t last. Often, they haven’t been given the right tools or support for them. They may feel overwhelmed, angry, discouraged, or disconnected from who they want to be.

You’ve tried everything, but your child is struggling despite your best efforts. You’re constantly managing their tear-streaked tantrums or sullen silences. “Time outs” don’t work, rewards don’t work, you want to pull your hair out sometimes. You’ve tried talking to them, but they won't tell you what they need. You wish you could read their mind. Pain and anxiety are written all over your child’s face. You so badly want to help but don’t know how. The helplessness and guilt you feel to see them suffer are almost too much to bear. You’ll never give up searching for a way to help them. There’s nothing you wouldn’t do for your child.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
