You thought you’d be past this by now. Everyone says, “Time heals all wounds,” but it still isn’t any easier. If anything, things are becoming more difficult. The world never stopped moving because of your loss , but at least people gave you time and space to grieve. Now, that grace period has elapsed, and friends and family are all wondering when you’ll “get on with your life.” While the comments don't help, you wish you had an answer for them but you simply don’t know. You go through the motions of life, doing what you need to, but you’re checked out. Hiding from the world, avoiding any reminders of your loss . You feel trapped.

20-25% of new moms can experience symptoms of a mood disorder after delivering a baby. These symptoms can also occur during pregnancy. Dads and partners can experience postpartum mood disorders too! Growing our families can be an overwhelming period. The experiences unique to making, carrying, delivering, bringing home, and caring for a new little human deserve equally unique attention. Since 2014 I have served families in Greater Memphis and West TN as they have walked a variety of journeys including Infertility, Infant Loss , Pregnancy Loss , Surrogacy, Traumatic Birth and Mood Disorders. I look forward to serving you.

Life transitions can be difficult and dysregulating, particularly when those transitions are a death / loss or the addition of a baby. Clients typically come in feeling overwhelmed or numb to what is going on in their life. Other clients feel stuck because of a past or recent trauma. My clients are open to exploring the mind-body connection as we collaboratively work together to find stability and joy in their everyday lives.

One of my greatest passions involves helping people through various transitions of life. I offer therapy in the area of Grief , Loss , Substance Use Disorders, Trauma, Behavioral Addictions, and Spiritual Direction. I believe our mental health is intricately connected to our emotional and spiritual well-being. There are times we find ourselves choosing unhealthy coping tools to redirect self-defeating, self-loathing, and self-sabotaging thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Through a multi-disciplined approach I'll help you identify those negative thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and reconnect to the emotions you've grown numb to.

My experience includes working with individuals, couples, children, teens, and families suffering from trauma, loss , depression, and anxiety.
"We are born in relationship. We grow in relationship. We are wounded in relationship. And we are healed in relationship." - Harville Hendrix. Therapy can benefit us in many ways including feeling heard, growing in self awareness, and healing from adversity life throws at us. It is also a great place to learn compassion for ourselves and empathy for others in our lives. As a therapist, I believe people are relational creatures. We can thrive or suffer greatly depending upon the quality of our relationships with God, others, and ourselves.

Having had experienced many losses in my life, I often wonder what to do next or how to move forward. Sometimes life happens so quickly that it seems like there is not enough time to catch a breath. It's a scary feeling to have to figure out the hustle and bustle of life while still hurting inside. Fearful of being misunderstood, judged or like "it" may not work may be the negative thoughts that have developed during such a devastating loss .

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
