Our time in counseling may also include an exploration of your
family
-of-origin, goals, present habits and emotional struggles.
Life presents us with many unexpected challenges that can leave us feeling hurt, lonely, anxious and stressed. Maybe you are struggling with insecurity, uncertainty or a lack of direction. In times of distress, it can be difficult to share with anyone, let alone someone you’ve never met. Building a relationship is the most important step in the counseling process and hinges on empathy, respect and safety within the therapy office. Healing happens when we feel fully accepted while being vulnerable and authentic. This can only be achieved through a strong therapeutic alliance. In this space, you will be welcomed, heard and supported.

As a couples or
family
counselor I will facilitate a deeper level of communication between clients so that you can be not only heard, but also understood by your partner or loved ones.
The most important parts of mental wellness are the ability to increase one’s self-awareness and broaden one’s perspective. As your counselor, I will provide a safe and judgment free environment for you to gain a better understanding of whatever issues you are dealing with as an individual, couple, or
family
including marital/relationship, mental health issues. The main goal of most clients is "to feel better," and I am here to help you make that goal more specific so that you can grow in the areas most important to you. I also strive to destigmatize counseling for men, Black / African-Americans, and other minority groups.

I blend a variety of approaches to meet each client’s needs but I frequently draw from a client-centered approach, a
family
systems approach and engage in emotion-focused processing and cognitive or cognitive-behavioral techniques.
It has been shown time and again the relationship between client and counselor is the most important part of a therapy experience. It is always on my mind to ensure that our relationship remains entirely focused on you, but as a part of the collaborative duo that will become client and therapist I’m happy to share a bit about myself. Relationally, I have been described as down-to-earth, authentic and sincere and I enjoy a bit of humorous banter in the therapy space as the situation calls for it. With humility and curiosity I am eager to hear about your life experiences. Licensed in TN (license 3396) & Virginia (license 0701010748)

I understand that life can become overwhelming at times. The key to self-happiness is being able to manage stress and anxiety, maintaining good self-care, good self-awareness, high self-esteem, eating healthy, having financial stability, maintaining healthy social systems with
family
and friends, and resting well. These are the keys to a healthy well-being. I am dedicated to helping women manage stress and anxiety, process grief and loss, navigate through traumatic events, build healthy relationships, and reunite with children after incarceration. I typically work with clients for 8 to 12 weeks, depending on their individual needs.

Do you feel like you're in constant conflict with your spouse, a friend, or

family
members, or friends, are often the source of our greatest joys and most painful heartaches. You want to enjoy your time with your favorite people. The first step is to understand and cope with your own needs and emotions so that you can learn to clearly express them to your loved ones and feel understood.

I believe the therapeutic relationship is an organic experience that cannot be created elsewhere. My experience has shown me that each of us walks our own path and that no two are the same. Having support while walking your path can be just the thing to make the difference. I strive to provide safety so that you can talk about your life, your
family
, your pain, and sit in the tension to ultimately begin living more authentically. I work from a holistic approach; given that, we will develop the best course of treatment for your needs, together.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
