Anxiety, panic attacks, fears,
anger
, hyperactivity, shame, pain & bodily ailments, depression and shut-down often arise from unresolved trauma.
TRAUMA: A threatening experience that is too much, too fast. When stressed out or truly overwhelmed, our instinctual survival responses can be blocked. If unable to complete our body’s survival responses, trauma occurs and symptoms emerge. We can feel stuck in flight, fight or freeze. Negative feelings, thoughts, behaviors and stress disorders often lie within the mind-body connection. As one who facilitates healing from emotional, spiritual, and physical pain and suffering, I am dedicated to working compassionately, non-judgmentally and collaboratively with you to become "unstuck" and find a greater sense of healing and wholeness.

I enjoy working with clients of all ages who need help navigating this obstacle course we call life when it presents with such problems as depression, anxiety,
anger
, behavior problems, grief, stress, relational conflicts, and traumatic events.
Have you acknowledged that you have a problem and are now seeking help? When you talk to family or friends, do you feel like you are not being heard? I believe that the first step in the healing process for any issue is to be "heard" and have someone to listen to you. I provide a safe place for individuals, families, parents, and couples to speak and begin the healing process. My goal is to provide a warm, nurturing, accepting environment that meets the client where they are at.

While I have experience with a variety of issues, I have focused on areas of trauma, eating disorders, and substance use with a history of working with intimate partner/domestic violence and
anger management
.
I view counseling as a vital practice that involves connection, commitment, and hope for change. I’m able to recognize the courage it takes for anyone to ask for help, and I want to recognize the strength it takes to chose to ask for what you need. I focus on approaching each therapeutic relationship with understanding to begin building trust and open communication. My desire is to be able to provide a safe place for anyone to feel heard and work together to allow for growth.

issues, self image and self esteem issues, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, and trauma.
If you’ve been hesitant to seek counseling due to not wanting to seem “crazy”, I am here to tell you that everyone can benefit from talking to a licensed mental health professional. You can most definitely pray (if you are a person of faith) and talk to a therapist at the same time! We all have some sort of baggage, but it’s totally up to you how you choose to address it. There’s no shame in seeking help, and it’s my personal mission to destigmatize receiving professional mental health treatment.

Depression, anxiety,
anger
: sometimes our feelings can be confusing and overwhelming. Struggles at home and work increase when we're not sure how we feel or what to do with our feelings. Our relationships suffer, we don't feel happy and content, and we may wonder if there will ever be improvement. These feelings are often more intense for people who have experienced significant trauma or loss. Figuring out how to seek help and talk about these issues can be difficult. It's hard to know who to turn to, who to trust, and allow ourselves to imagine positive change. Sometimes it's hard to hope.

To the ones who struggle to love themselves because the voice in their head keeps telling them not to. To the adults who carry the scars of a rough childhood and the shame that comes with it. To the ones who seem like they have it all together, but are hiding their struggles with anxiety and depression behind a joke and smile. To the ones who were never taught how to deal with grief,
anger
, sadness, or fear and are coping the best way they know how. To the ones who were disowned or rejected by families or friends for who you love, who you are, or what you believe. I see your strength, I see your pain, and I see your courage.

How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
