I am also trained in trauma focus therapy (TF-CBT).
Acknowledging the need for help can sometimes be a difficult first step, but carrying all of life's problems alone can be brutal and isolating. I provide a safe place for individuals, families, parents and couples to navigate effectively through the many obstacles we face on life's journey. My goal is to provide a warm and accepting environment for individuals to explore feelings, behaviors and life experiences that may allow for personal reflection and growth.

Sara specializes in helping people recover from difficult life experiences that some label as “ trauma .
I believe people can heal. Humans are amazing, resilient, beings and watching them learn about themselves and develop new skills to cope with being human is inspiring to me. I believe we come here with all we need to be who we are and it is brave soul work of uncovering, discovering and discarding what is not ours or no longer serves us. I get to be a light on that journey for them, guiding them towards healthier ways to live.  Sara is LGBTQ affirming and she strives for cultural competency in her work and in the world.

I use a trauma -informed and highly individualized approach to help you identify the cause of these patterns and how to build the healthy relationship you want.
You really thought they were it. But now you're googling narcissist and signs of toxic relationships. Even after everything, you still hope they can change. You try to stay busy so you don't have to think about it or feel it. But you cry yourself to sleep every night. You're convinced there must be something wrong with you or you must not deserve a healthy, loving relationship. Which is so hard because that's all you really want. No matter what you do, it's never enough. By working together, you will learn how to stop repeating the same patterns, build healthy relationships, and believe you are good enough for the things you desire.

In doing trauma work I use EMDR and/or EFT in a phase approach of symptom management, then trauma work and then resolution.
My approach with my clients is one of being relaxed and personable. I am methodical in pacing therapy with the client's own needs and coping skills. Clients are taught usable ways to deal with stress, intense emotions and disturbing thoughts. My goal is to help each client focus on living life to the fullest instead of going through the motions of living life. As a Christian counselor, I respect each individual's beliefs in God and salvation. I actively seek God's healing graces to guide me in my work to help my clients.

I am nationally certified to provide Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT-LBC provider) and provide trauma services utilizing the evidenced based DBT + PE (Prolonged Exposure) protocol.
I began practicing outpatient mental health in 2010 working with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, co-occurring substance use, trauma and borderline personality disorder. Clients often want to feel better, and I enjoy coming alongside to understand what feeling better means for each person, what are their hopes and dreams, and how can we partner together to achieve those dreams. Sometimes, that means needing to heal from past hurts. Sometimes that means learning how to navigate shame, anxiety, depression that keeps one in bed, or anger that comes out in unhelpful ways.

I specialize in the treatment of anxiety, trauma , sleep problems, and depression.
At one point or another, we all experience stress. Often we are able to manage stress effectively and grow through our struggles. Unfortunately, some circumstances such as major life transitions, relationship problems, memories of painful situations from the past, or other major stressors, can overwhelm our ability to cope. When this occurs, people may experience symptoms such as sleep difficulty, changes in daily behaviors, low motivation, tension or irritability. In difficult times, speaking to a compassionate professional can help struggling individuals find hope, learn new skills , and improve their quality of life.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
