Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness. -Desmond Tutu. Sometimes it is hard to be hopeful when we are faced with problems in our life. Oftentimes claiming hope is the first step towards overcoming challenges, whether they be depression or anxiety,
relationship
stressors, or accepting and flourishing as individuals with multiple identities. From the onset of our time working together, we will establish hope as a foundation. From there we can address whatever burdens you carry together, to give you the knowledge and skills you need to live fully and happily.

My personal philosophy of healing is not standardized. Growth comes from a place of vulnerability and courage to face difficult truths and clients will learn and grow through a strong and trusting therapeutic
relationship
. Acceptance of all parts of ourselves is fundamental in therapy and I believe change requires a willingness to transfer negative energy out in order to make room for our ideal selves. The therapeutic process will provide a space for clients to discover their needs and the best way to meet them. My hope is that you gain a difference in perspective that serves you and provides a basis for unconditional acceptance.

I work with clients that present with a variety of issues - depression, anxiety, addiction - often stemming from underlying issues with codependency, low self-worth, family of origin issues, and unresolved trauma. I see individuals,
couples
, and adolescents. If appropriate, I like working with clients in a group setting where peer support and identification with others help clients feel less misunderstood, alone or different.

Making the decision to seek counseling can be a tough one for many. Therapy is a process where you can learn, grow, and heal in ways you did not expect. Do you feel you struggle to be your true authentic self in the spaces that you occupy? Finding it hard to create and maintain boundaries with those closest to you? Maybe your own thoughts and feelings of stress and anxiety are hindering you from reaching what you feel is your full potential? My goal, as your therapist, is to help guide you through this process of self-discovery and healing.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
