My specialty areas are coping with and healing from racial trauma, childhood and family of origin trauma, grief and loss, religious and spiritual issues, and phase of life/life transition concerns.
Do you ever feel like your choices are limited and like your movement towards growth is stunted? Therapy provides the opportunity to tap into the wisdom of how to live a more fulfilling life that is hidden within all of us, but at times feels out of reach. My work is to facilitate deep exploration of who you are, your needs, what propels you towards change, and what shapes the choices you make in your life. You can re-write the remaining parts of your life's story because you will have access to the author again: YOU.

Some may be experiencing grief due to the loss of a loved one, a major life transition, or unmet expectations.
I work with individuals facing grief/ loss, behavioral addictions (e.g., pornography, gaming), stress, anxiety, or depression. I also enjoy supporting those navigating life transitions, like becoming a spouse or parent. Together, we work to understand root causes and then utilize appropriate interventions that support healing.

My experience includes working with individuals, couples, children, teens, and families suffering from trauma, loss, depression, and anxiety.
"We are born in relationship. We grow in relationship. We are wounded in relationship. And we are healed in relationship." - Harville Hendrix. Therapy can benefit us in many ways including feeling heard, growing in self awareness, and healing from adversity life throws at us. It is also a great place to learn compassion for ourselves and empathy for others in our lives. As a therapist, I believe people are relational creatures. We can thrive or suffer greatly depending upon the quality of our relationships with God, others, and ourselves.

I specialize in working with adults becoming their authentic self as they flow through transitions from relationships, careers, parenting, health, grief and the transition to healing your relationship with YOU.
Ever felt that you needed to shift yourself to meet the expectations of others? Felt that your emotions were too much? Led by the desire to make others around you feel comfortable even if you felt discomfort? Find yourself entering the world with a to do list of how to act “not anxious”, how to act “normal”, how to act based off what others expect? Does this make you feel exhausted, overwhelmed, disconnected from your authentic self? Does this create challenges in relationships, make you question your value, or feel guilt when you insert your needs? Ready to feel seen, heard, valued and empowered to be you? If so, let’s chat.

Through counseling, I promote esteem-building, efficiency, productiveness, confidence, effectiveness, and ability, as well as talk through trauma, grief, and loss.
Do you feel disconnected from yourself, family and friends; the world? Has your story become lost in the loudness of “getting it done”? Is it hard for you to make sense of it all? If this is you, I may be able to help. My goal is to walk with you as you reconnect to your world. We can do this by teaching you skills to restore your voice and build authentic relationships. I am passionate about social issues and approach counseling from a place of authentic, honest connection. I believe there are many threats in society, meant to traumatize and fracture us. My goal is to help you overcome adversity and achieve wholeness.

I have worked in an EAP (Employee Assistance Program) setting for over 30 years so my approach to counseling is, at least initially, short-term and solution-focused, using cognitive -behavioral therapy. I want to hear your story and help you define your needs and goals. I am semi-retired but still enjoy seeing clients. My schedule is very flexible.

Through a client-centered approach and an integration of the mind-body connection, I have a desire to work with those facing trauma, attachment issues, family of origin issues, anxiety, depression, codependency, and grief.
The mind, body, and soul are deeply connected. You cannot have one without the others. By connecting these three, my hope is to help others find healing and connection by creating a safe space to feel, need, and ask for help.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
