Being a teenager and a young-adult in a post-pandemic world is hard. Add in anxiety, up and down moods, problems with focus and prioritizing, or relationship conflicts and it can feel overwhelming, impossible, and like things will never get better. Not only do we have typical day-to-day concerns like figuring out who we are and what we want to be, but we may be struggling with perfectionism, communicating, taking things personally, making friends, or getting along better with our parents. The loneliness of feeling misunderstood and not knowing what to do is crippling.

My work centers on helping individuals move toward greater balance, resilience, and self-connection through an integrative approach to mental health. I believe emotional well-being is shaped not only by our thoughts and experiences, but also by the state of our nervous system and our connection to the body and environment. Many of the people I work with are thoughtful and capable but feel overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck in patterns that insight alone has not shifted. Therapy offers a space to slow down, understand those patterns, and develop a more regulated and compassionate relationship with yourself.

I have extensive training working with children and teenagers and have worked with families in the Greater Memphis Area for over 10 years.
Having some background in visual arts has allowed me to incorporate a lot of expressive and art based therapists into practice. I have an Ed.S in Counseling Psychology focusing on Play Therapy. Play Therapy allows the therapist to best communicate with children (as with other ages) and reach them on a deeper level than with just talking.

Sometimes life just gets overwhelming. I enjoy supporting both minors and adults in finding self compassion and growth while experiencing the uncomfortable. In sessions together, we can learn to do this by navigating trauma responses, depression, anxiety, life transitions, suicidal thoughts, relationships, body-image challanges, disordered eating, behavioral issues, and stress. Through both doing my own work and spending time with clients, I wholeheartedly feel we can find so much healing by getting curious about our emotions and greeting whatever arises with kindness, respect, and a bit of humor

I received my undergraduate degree from Auburn University in Early Childhood Education and swam for the 3x NCAA Championship team.
I approach clients as uniquely beautiful and gifted and work to assist clients in overcoming barriers that prevent them from embracing their innate strengths. I affirm all gender identities, religions, disabilities, ethnicities, and cultures and encourage clients to find healing within each aspect of their person. Life can be exhilarating and shattering, pleasant and painful, beautiful and horrific. All emotions tell us something about ourselves and our circumstances. All emotions are good and should be handled with care, because they are the forces that lead us to ourselves.

Being seen and heard are gifts that many of us have not consistently received throughout our lives. These gifts are essential to our humanity—they allow us to experience fullness, wholeness, and a steady sense of self. When we experience ruptures or traumas—whether with society, others, or ourselves—it’s often because we’ve been reduced to parts, rather than being seen and understood as our full selves. We may even begin to believe that this fragmentation is all we are worth, or we may fall into the trap of living in scarcity, convinced that we don’t deserve abundance. Yet, deep within, we know we were meant for more.

I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults facing a wide variety of challenges.
Life gets messy sometimes. Whether it be due to trauma, a conflictual relationship, or even our own feelings that seem to come out of nowhere, there are times when we find ourselves "stuck" and wondering why we can't seem to manage at our full potential. The good news is that real and lasting change is possible. In my over fifteen years of experience, I have seen individuals and families heal, grow, and thrive at a level that surprised even themselves. If the hard stuff in life is seeming heavy, I'd love to come alongside you to help you create a path to reaching your goals.

I help parents and kids develop a mutually respectful relationship while navigating challenges.
I believe we all long to flourish. When we meet, we will explore what flourishing means to you, what your goals are, and what's standing in your way. I look first at your strengths—what's working for you now— and why you think you are struggling in certain areas. We will then collaborate on how to reach your goals. As a Christian I know we have a unique relationship with God, and when asked I integrate spirituality. Because I have a lifetime of lived experiences I am compassionate, nonjudgmental, and empathetic. I draw from these experiences, and it informs my counseling. Helping others to flourish has always been part of who I am.

FAQ - About Child Therapy
When does a child need to see a therapist?
Children naturally experience emotional ups and downs. Sometimes, though, they need support from a professional. A child may benefit from therapy if their emotions or behaviors change significantly within a short period of time. For example, if a child usually spends time with friends after school but begins isolating in their room, further inquiry is warranted. Other areas for concern include altered sleep patterns, lack of appetite, intense anger, irritability, or hopelessness, or developmental regression in young children (bedwetting, thumb-sucking).

What can a child therapist help with?
A therapist can help with any difficult experience a child may encounter growing up, including learning problems or anxiety related to school, relationship challenges with friends or parents, bullying, intense emotions or phobias, divorce and family dynamics, or the death of a pet or loved one. A therapist can help children process their experience and develop coping skills in an age-appropriate way

What therapy types are most suitable for children?
Children can benefit from different forms of therapy, including family therapy, parent-child interaction therapy, play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and exposure therapy, depending on their condition. Play therapy is a great option for younger children who may not be able to fully articulate their feelings. In this approach, kids play with toys and games while a therapist observes and helps the child express their emotions and develop coping skills.

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
