Being a teenager and a young-adult in a post-pandemic world is hard.
A goal of my practice is to reclaim the word “sensitive” and help you see it as a superpower rather than a burden. I want you to feel seen and help you remember your innate worthiness as you navigate transitions and stressors while practicing more effective ways to cope and express yourself. I give you permission to be messy as we make sense of the mess.

My hope is to create a relationship between the therapist and the individual that fosters positive and lasting change. To that end, I work patiently to ensure a sense of trust and safety. In addition, I feel I work well with individuals who go to therapy to be challenged, to be "unstuck." In these cases, I can be supportive while also being firm and direct. My approach is sensitive to the individual's life circumstance, their personality, and their comfort level with the therapeutic process.

You’ve tried everything, but your child is struggling despite your best efforts. You’re constantly managing their tear-streaked tantrums or sullen silences. “Time outs” don’t work, rewards don’t work, you want to pull your hair out sometimes. You’ve tried talking to them, but they won't tell you what they need. You wish you could read their mind. Pain and anxiety are written all over your child’s face. You so badly want to help but don’t know how. The helplessness and guilt you feel to see them suffer are almost too much to bear. You’ll never give up searching for a way to help them. There’s nothing you wouldn’t do for your child.

Being seen and heard are gifts that many of us have not consistently received throughout our lives. These gifts are essential to our humanity—they allow us to experience fullness, wholeness, and a steady sense of self. When we experience ruptures or traumas—whether with society, others, or ourselves—it’s often because we’ve been reduced to parts, rather than being seen and understood as our full selves. We may even begin to believe that this fragmentation is all we are worth, or we may fall into the trap of living in scarcity, convinced that we don’t deserve abundance. Yet, deep within, we know we were meant for more.

I have extensive experience in addictions, trauma, adolescent therapy, and relationship issues.
Many of the people that I meet in my practice are feeling "stuck" in some area of life - they can't seem to get traction in making change happen. Addictions, co-dependence, anxiety, depression, anger, poor self-image, lack of assertiveness, lack of closeness in relationships, and struggles with getting past major life traumas are many of the issues we focus on in sessions.

What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
