Life can be confusing and frustrating. Counseling can help you to explore and make decisions towards a healthy future. Taking care of one's emotional health is important, you are worth it. I believe a counselor can be a fresh pair of eyes with the expertise to help one find their way through life's events. Due to COVID-19 concerns sessions are now being offered via tele-health video or telephone.

My primary work today is with those individuals struggling to achieve the best version of themselves. A variety of factors are at play here from past trauma, difficulty connecting, tragic life events, self sabotaging or self destructive coping skills, among others that get in our own way. I offer a place for the individual to explore past patterns and create a new narrative for a new future.

There are several things in my life which drive me to be a counselor. My own past with it struggles, acceptances, failures, and successes drive me to do what I do. I am able to sit in dark places, empathize with struggle and loneliness, and challenge ways of thinking and behaving from a non-judgmental place. I love the unique position a counselor has to problem solve through the failures, walk the uphill road to recovery, and celebrate the success and growth that comes out of the journey.

I have built my practice around a specialization in mental health disorders (specifically but not limited to anxiety and mood disorders), emotional issues (relationship problems, grief), and addiction issues (drugs, alcohol, drug/alcohol assessments, relationships, pornography).
The most rewarding therapy sessions occur with clients who are motivated to make progress towards the goals they set. I strongly believe that the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client is of upmost importance to the client meeting their goals. I strive to build a trusting, supportive, and safe relationship with each of my clients. I believe everyone has their own unique story to tell. I enjoy hearing that story and helping people overcome the issues that can surface over a lifetime. I see adults and adolescents in my therapy practice as well as the occasional couple.

My counseling experience includes working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, grief and life changing events.
Some of the therapeutic treatments used are cognitive-behavior therapy, behavior modification, trauma-focused CBT, and solution focused therapy. Imagine a life full of joy, presence, and gratitude. Life can be hard at times with all of its troubles. It may feel like you're no longer a driver, but a passenger in your own life. You have difficulty seeing beyond the here and now, unable to find solutions, and you can't come back to a sense of self because everything else seems to be keeping you from peace. You are wanting to take control and live a life you've been dreaming of. I work specifically with depression, anxiety, substance use, and general life transitions.

Couples often come to me feeling disconnected, stuck in painful communication patterns, recovering from betrayal, or repeating the same conflicts without progress. Traditional insurance-based therapy often doesn’t allow enough time for meaningful deeper work, which is why I specialize in extended couples sessions and customized one- and two-day intensives. Based in Lawrenceburg, TN, I serve couples throughout Nashville and surrounding areas seeking focused, private, intentional support to reconnect, heal, and create lasting change.

As a clinical counselor and pastor I value creating space for intentional listening to discover and discern how personal uniqueness can find expression within the contours of life. I work collaboratively with individuals, families and adolescents to grow awareness around the stories we tell ourselves. Sometimes these are strong, positively thick stories, and I enjoy celebrating progression with another when this occurs. More often than not in counseling, I find that our normal human experiences bring with them the challenge of embracing life as it actually is.

You may be the person others rely on - the capable one, the responsible one, the one who always finds a way to get things done. From the outside, your life may look successful and well-managed. But inside, you may feel exhausted from carrying so much for so long. Many high-capacity women silently experience burnout. They hold high standards for themselves, juggle significant responsibilities, and often feel pressure to keep everything together. Over time, this can lead to emotional exhaustion, self-doubt, and a sense that your worth has become tied to how much you accomplish.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
