Healing is often uncomfortable. No one likes feeling exposed or overwhelmed, but together, we can pull those heavy emotions out from under that 'everything is fine' umbrella and look at them for what they really are.

I have several years of experience working with a variety of mental health issues, including addiction, severe and persistent mental health disorders, family systems, domestic violence situations, trauma, along with others.
There are several things in my life which drive me to be a counselor. My own past with it struggles, acceptances, failures, and successes drive me to do what I do. I am able to sit in dark places, empathize with struggle and loneliness, and challenge ways of thinking and behaving from a non-judgmental place. I love the unique position a counselor has to problem solve through the failures, walk the uphill road to recovery, and celebrate the success and growth that comes out of the journey.

You've built a life that looks successful from the outside: the career, the reputation, the achievements. But underneath all of it, something isn't working, and it's been that way for a long time. Maybe it's the anxiety that never fully stops. The patterns you keep repeating no matter how hard you try. The exhaustion of performing a version of yourself that was built to survive. You've tried to out-work it, out-think it, out-achieve it. Yet, you're still here. You probably worry that there's just something inherently wrong with you and it will always be like this. What if it's a wound asking to be seen and healed instead?

It gets hard feeling like no one really understands you or can relate to the things that you are dealing with. Everyday you put on a strong face and hope that someone really cares how you are doing. Do you really tell them and do they really want to know? Are they going to judge me? You were told to be strong, not to cry, don't show emotion, because you don't want to appear weak. You may have even been told that you shouldn't act a certain way because of how it will appear to others. You have avoided reaching out for help because people may think you are "crazy" but I want to tell you that you are not alone.

I have experience with childhood trauma, substance abuse, depression, and anxiety, as well as other mental health issues.
I was always taught to be a guide and to help find the patterns in our behaviors that are helpful or unhelpful, and to either grow or replace those patterns. In every position I have held, I have always strived to strengthen adaptive patterns and to help rewire the maladaptive ones.

Domestic Abuse Therapists
What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?
Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.
When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?
Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.
What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?
Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.
How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?
It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
