Life can be confusing and frustrating. Counseling can help you to explore and make decisions towards a healthy future. Taking care of one's emotional health is important, you are worth it. I believe a counselor can be a fresh pair of eyes with the expertise to help one find their way through life's events. Due to COVID-19 concerns sessions are now being offered via tele-health video or telephone.

Here I primarily work with adults and teens as well as couples and marriage counseling.
My primary work today is with those individuals struggling to achieve the best version of themselves. A variety of factors are at play here from past trauma, difficulty connecting, tragic life events, self sabotaging or self destructive coping skills, among others that get in our own way. I offer a place for the individual to explore past patterns and create a new narrative for a new future.

You'll build the skills to mindfully navigate your thoughts, feelings, and relationships with clarity, confidence, and compassion leading to greater presence with yourself and others.
“It is strange to be here. The mystery never leaves you alone. Behind your image, below your words, above your thoughts, the silence of another world waits. A world lives within you. No one else can bring you news of this inner world.” - Irish poet John O'Donohue on the human condition. The good stuff of life is found in this mystery. My role as a therapist is to accompany you in exploring the mystery of your inner world and to offer tools as you move into alignment with yourself. This process brings healing, contentment, freedom, and the skills to surf life’s waves. Beyond therapy, I like bicycles, senior dogs, and groovy music.

In my own journey, I have experienced the reality that relationships are the places we are most deeply wounded and the places that can provide the greatest hope and potential for healing.
You find yourself caught in unhealthy patterns you can’t seem to escape. You’ve tried to change but keep finding yourself in the same stuck, disconnected, and overwhelmed place. When clients start their work with me, they often feel frustrated, tired, lonely, and ready for something to be different. You want more for yourself and desire to feel deeply connected to yourself and others. I would love to come alongside you on your journey toward a more wholehearted and meaningful life.

I utilize an insight-driven approach with individuals, couples, and families going through major and minor life transitions including career changes, educational pursuits, relationship issues, grief and loss, living with medical diagnoses, and retirement.
Many people desire a deeper understanding of their emotional lives. Often, childhood patterns can hinder our progress towards greater fulfillment and sense of purpose. We seek to understand our inner lives and gain deeper connections with others. As we search for greater meaning and belonging, we might get stuck in old feelings and fears that prevent us from moving forward. It is important to have a counselor to accompany each of us during the times of deep transition and change.

Our protective patterns can shape the way we show up in relationships and block the closeness, safety, and connection we deeply desire.
I provide a nonjudgmental space where you can show up just as you are. Together, we’ll explore your story and uncover the beliefs that have led you to control situations or hide parts of yourself in order to feel accepted. I offer EMDR to help process painful experiences and shift the patterns that have kept you stuck.

FAQ - About Couples Therapy
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
