Life can be confusing and frustrating. Counseling can help you to explore and make decisions towards a healthy future. Taking care of one's emotional health is important, you are worth it. I believe a counselor can be a fresh pair of eyes with the expertise to help one find their way through life's events. Due to COVID-19 concerns sessions are now being offered via tele-health video or telephone.

There are several things in my life which drive me to be a counselor. My own past with it struggles, acceptances, failures, and successes drive me to do what I do. I am able to sit in dark places, empathize with struggle and loneliness, and challenge ways of thinking and behaving from a non-judgmental place. I love the unique position a counselor has to problem solve through the failures, walk the uphill road to recovery, and celebrate the success and growth that comes out of the journey.

My primary work today is with those individuals struggling to achieve the best version of themselves. A variety of factors are at play here from past trauma, difficulty connecting, tragic life events, self sabotaging or self destructive coping skills, among others that get in our own way. I offer a place for the individual to explore past patterns and create a new narrative for a new future.

I have decades of experience and extensive training in trauma, substance abuse, neurodivergence, depression, & anxiety. I have a wealth of knowledge about the legal, school, and healthcare systems. I am comfortable working with people from every walk of life, including those who are people of color, disabled, and/or who identify as LGBTQ+. I specialize in working with adolescents and have worked with numerous trauma survivors. Mental health issues are often the direct result, not of individual responses to stress, but a reaction to a variety of societal ills - racism, homophobia and transphobia, ableism, economic inequality, etc.

Have you tried therapy before, read all the recommended books, followed the advice, and still feel stuck? I want to help families who are tired of surface-level solutions. I specialize in helping families reconnect when relationships feel strained and disconnected. In helping parents who love their child deeply but feel stuck in constant power struggles, meltdowns, or conflict. Working with teens who feel lost, overwhelmed, or unsure of who they are. I help families understand the deeper story behind behaviors, repair connection, and build relationships rooted in trust, security, and belonging.

Are you suffering from anxiety, depression, or trauma, but you have been skeptical about counseling? Is it difficult for you to talk about your problems, or do you worry that counseling may not help? Truthfully, traditional talk therapy only engages the cortical brain or consciousness; but healing and recovery originates deeper in the subcortical brain or subconsciousness. Brainspotting activates this deeper subcortical level permitting the brain and body to begin healing from stress, illness, pain, and trauma. If you are tired of suffering and ready for change this therapy treatment is a great place to start the healing process.

I believe that people make sense within their context. And so, I am mindful of context - cultural background, attachment style, family and relationship history, etc. I enjoy the process of listening and attending, especially to those whose voices may feel unheard, such as teens, women, and trauma survivors. My work is informed by an integrative and embodied approach, utilizing various family system theories and trauma-informed interventions. Through establishing a sound therapeutic relationship and safe environment, I am hopeful that your difficult emotions will "make sense," and a story of resilience and compassion will be heard.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a passion for working with adults struggling to cope with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, substance abuse, chronic pain/medical issues, and adjustment to difficult life transitions. I believe that every individual has inherent strengths that can be powerful catalysts for positive change- although these can often feel just out of reach when we try to carry our struggles on our own. Through a collaborative and client-centered approach, I work with you to uncover and utilize these strengths to facilitate growth and healing that lasts long after therapy has ended.

Accepting new clients as of 6/1! Maybe you've tried all the tips you’ve learned online, but are tired of managing your anxiety and want to find the root cause. Maybe you feel lost of what you want or who you are. Maybe you have a sweet kid at home, yet you continue to receive calls and emails from school about behaviors. Maybe you miss feeling connected with your kid/teen due to consistent power struggles. If any of this sounds like you, then I may be the fit for you! I lead with humor and curiosity because you need someone on your side. I love working with clients who are ready for real change rather than bandaid solutions.

I partner with individuals who are dealing with issues related to anxiety or mood, sleep difficulties, chronic pain/persistent pain, trauma, or stress - or some combination of these. Understanding that: 1. our minds and bodies are inextricably intertwined (shout out to our incredible Nervous System!), and, 2. there is often an overlap between mood, sleep, trauma, chronic pain, or stress... when we work on one area, it also has benefits in other areas! We leverage the power of these interconnections to help you figure out and move in the direction of what's really important to you in your life.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
