I am dedicated to assist families and individuals within the Christian Community who are interested in improving their emotional intelligence, communication skills, and spiritual well-being. I am a SYMBIS certified facilitator, which is a helpful tool to use with premarital couples in combination with the APS assessment.

Through an eclectic approach to counseling, I strive to empower all my clients with the knowledge that they CAN improve and can take back control of their lives. I'm here to assist the process of developing and maintaining positive healthy relationships with self and others to live freely, authentically and creatively. I use experiential, integrative and holistic modalities of therapy. I incorporate the energetic body (EMDR and meditation,) and spiritual aspects while using my professional psychology training as a foundation to assist improved and continued maintenance of healthy emotional health and creative expression.

I am a contract therapist with Alice Stricklin Counseling. I have my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Freed-Hardeman University, & am currently a National Certified Counselor, pursuing licensure as a LPC-MHSP. I am trained in EMDR. I view every opportunity with clients as a special time, & also an honor to be part of their current journey. I am intentional in making sure each individual feels safe, heard, and valuable in the space that we share. Some of my focus areas include anxiety, depression, divorce adjustment, and trauma. My Goldendoodle, Baymax, also joins me for some of my sessions to support clients.

I currently hold my LPC-MHSP license and I specialize in several areas including depression, OCD/anxiety, stress, and couples counseling. I enjoy working with individuals who are open to the therapy process and are willing to work toward goals. Please consider, this process is NOT a one-off session - it is a course of treatment whereby you need to be committed to change and healing towards a happy more grounded and integrated future. Therapy is something you engage in, not something you receive passively and while like most things in life that are incredibly difficult to do, they tend to be the most fulfilling.

Although I am open and able to seeing all ages, my specialty includes work primarily with children and adolescents who are struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, and transitional periods of life. In working with children and teens, I also include work with parents, guardians, and others in the family system, as needed. My goal as a therapist is to help all clients process and heal from those difficult and challenging parts of life and help you to reframe parts of your story through a new lens.

In my 50+ years I have personally experienced a lot of things that my clients share with me. I am able to empathize or and the very least identify with my client`s needs. My approach is Person/Client Centered; Person-centered therapy uses a non-authoritative approach that allows clients to take more of a lead in discussions so that, in the process, they will discover their own solutions. The therapist acts as a compassionate facilitator, listening without judgment and acknowledging the client’s experience without moving the conversation in another direction. The therapist is there to encourage and support the client.

We are all works in progress, constantly changing and hopefully moving towards growth, and to be the best version of ourselves. Through therapy we can achieve healing and a greater understanding of ourselves and others. I offer a safe, encouraging, and holistic approach to therapy. My desire is to help support you in reaching your goals and move you towards a happier, healthier, and more fulfilling life. I provide therapy for individuals, couples, families, and adolescents. My therapy approach is personally tailored to each of my clients needs to help them attain the goals they desire.

I also see clients for pre-marital, anxiety, depression, grief, women's issues, stepfamilies, and spiritual concerns. I am a published writer, speaker, teacher, and singer. I also have a women's event team, Bold Brave and Beautiful. We do women's ministry events and retreats to help women by using testimonies, laughter, praise, and worship. The hurt in my life has become my ministry to help others regain peace, joy, hope, and contentment in a shattered world.

A GPS is used to guide us to our destination. It gives us a route to get from the current location to the desired destination. But, the GPS does not tell us about all the obstacles we may encounter along the way or anticipate when we may get distracted and miss a turn. During your journey through life, you may be taken off your path by circumstances you did not foresee or by your own choices. As a result, you also may lose your relationship to self, others, and God.

I find that I tend to be helpful to clients who want to integrate spiritual growth as they journey to healing emotional pain and conflict. The counseling relationship serves as a therapeutic crucible, providing a safe and appropriately challenging space to explore ways to draw out and empower the self to experience abundant life.

Alyssa received her Master’s of Arts degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University. Practicing for over 6 years, she is passionate about helping individuals and couples do life and relationships well. Alyssa helps couples develop the tools necessary for effective communication and conflict resolution. Cultivating and restoring intimacy is a key focus in her treatment approach with couples. She also works with women and teens helping them find healing and connect with a sense of purpose. Alyssa specializes in the treatment of anxiety and depression, grief, divorce and phase of life adjustments, and codependency recovery.

Ideal clients are individuals and couples that desire a level of intimacy that reflects God’s desire for us to understand and experience what true love is all about. This quest involves developing intimate connections within ourselves, with friends and in loving relationships. My ideal clients are ready to take the first step on the intimacy quest that will move them closer to fulfilling emotional, marital and sexual relationships.
