I prefer to be in the present, listen to the client and partner with them to come up with a plan to meet their unique set of challenges and opportunities, not just just meet short term goals but make therapy a way to teach long term ways of coping that aid in meeting challenges in the future and not dependent on the therapist but through inner strengths that are fostered in therapy as ways to build up self-esteem, cultural pride and self worth.

As a parent or caregiver, you may feel overwhelmed trying to understand what’s beneath your child’s behavior, emotions, or learning challenges. If you’re a college student or young adult, you may quietly wonder why things feel harder than they “should” — academically, socially, or emotionally. I’m a licensed psychologist specializing in assessment and treatment of developmental, emotional, behavioral, and learning differences in children, adolescents, and young adults, providing clarity, direction, and practical support for families and emerging adults.

People tell me that I’m easy to talk to. But I don’t just listen. I help you find out how the ways you are thinking or interacting are causing you problems, and I offer observations and possible solutions. You and I collaborate to figure out what solutions may fit for you, and how to make them work in your life. Together we build an understanding of what you are going through, and together we tackle the issues. Rather than relying on manualized “copy and paste” therapeutic approaches, my suggestions and observations are based on an in-depth understanding of you and your situation.

I find that I work best with those who are not interested in an overly sterile therapy experience and who may lovingly self-label as freaks/outcasts/weirdos. I believe therapy shouldn't feel hierarchical, nor alienating. You and I are collaborating to help you reach a point in your life where you feel stable and content. I’m not here to judge you or tell you what to do, but rather to work as a friendly voice to help you connect missing pieces and wade through life’s challenges with more confidence.

What keeps you up at night? Feeling overwhelmed? Problems with relationships? Anxiety? No matter what you are struggling with, no matter what worries you, you do not have to go through this alone. A lot of therapists focus solely on identifying people's weaknesses. I will help you build up your weak areas, but I will also help you identify & develop your strengths so that rather than just getting by, you can really thrive. I specialize in working with anxiety-related issues: panic attacks, phobias, skin-picking & hair-pulling, perfectionism, etc.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
