No matter how many times you get knocked down, you get back up and keep fighting the enemy until it is defeated. It could be recovering from trauma. I can help you find the best ways to move forward and learn to help yourself through building coping skills, learning mindfulness, and increasing self esteem and self worth to live your most fulfilling life.

Seeking therapeutic support is a step toward healing and growth. It shows that you realize you don't have to walk alone and you are ready for change. I want to be that person that walks alongside you on your journey toward balance. We all need someone to talk to that can be a mirror, help us illuminate areas in our lives that may be hidden or unclear, and share skills that we can use to enhance our well-being. I have a heart for those dealing with life transitions, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, career issues, grief and the effects of past trauma.

Self-destructive behaviors and impulsivity (like binge eating, substance abuse, or self-harm), low self-esteem, and relationship issues are often signs that you feel lost or stuck in yourself and your life. Young adults and adolescents are especially prone to this kind of struggle and it is common for them to express feeling unheard and misunderstood by people in their lives. Do you feel you are totally lost in life? You are not alone! I would be honored to help you get to know yourself and work to get unstuck so you can live a more fulfilling life!

The therapeutic relationship is unlike any other relationship. It is characterized by attuned and non-judgmental listening aimed at identifying and understanding repetitive patterns that contribute to relational and behavioral difficulties. If you find yourself continuously engaging in unhelpful behaviors and can't figure out why, therapy can be a profoundly useful resource to identify the aspects of your personality that may be perpetuating these cycles.

Do you struggle with anxiety, depression, or wonder where you “fit in?” Do you struggle getting out of bed, have trouble falling sleep, or find yourself crying or “blowing up” more often?  You may be feeling isolated from your friends and family, or have a difficult time reaching out to your social supports. Maybe you are often feeling emotionally exhausted and mentally drained by routines that you used to accomplish with ease. Are you struggling to adapt to the increasingly chaotic world around you, or are you feeling a sense of loss for the life you had before the pandemic?

Why go to therapy? We all are allowed to have a crisis, but shouldn't do it at the same time. Therapy can be an incredible tool to help guide us in any stage of life. An experience designed around your individual needs, as healing comes in many forms. As a therapist, I seek to create an open and trusting space for you to be heard, to better understand yourself and to develop strategies that help you to navigate life with a healthy mindset. The therapeutic strategies that I use are guided by a trauma informed lens that allows for the use of many different potential interventions and determined by your personal needs and preferences.

I enjoy working with children and families who are struggling to understand each other and get along. A lack of communication and an inability to express feelings appropriately are often the main issues in these relationships. I work with not only the children/teens to increase their abilities in these areas, I also work with the parents and siblings to help them understand how they can help the relationship be less turbulent.

Are you someone who is curious about your inner life? Has something difficult happened and you can’t seem to move on? Have you noticed frustrating patterns in relationships, self-esteem struggles, codependency, perfectionism, identity questions or spiritual concerns? In a world where we can feel caught between so many competing demands, it can be hard to identify our own voice. While I work with a variety of individuals, I specialize in young adults, women and LGBT people experiencing life transitions, anxiety, identity concerns, relationship challenges and those deconstructing/reconstructing religious faith.

Healing, Growth, Change.....Working toward these three things is the core of my therapeutic approach. I also believe in starting in the “Here and Now” to provide a foundation of coping with current happenings and difficult emotions. Once that foundation is built, we work toward “peeling away the layers” of unpacking the past or looking ahead to the future. Common themes that I address are self-esteem, communication, coping skills for depression and anxiety, success practices and stress management. I will provide a safe, nonjudgemental and nurturing space for you to process whatever it is that you need to work through.

It takes courage to do what you are doing, and I commend you for taking the first step. Fear, anxiety, grief, and depression are emotions that we all experience. They aren’t unusual, but at times they can feel like a runaway train, stealing your thoughts, time, energy and happiness. I work together with my clients on managing and regulating these overwhelming thoughts and emotions, and help them to draw from their own strength to live a life that’s purposeful and fulfilling according to their values. You are the expert on you, and I will be there to give insight, feedback, and offer new perspectives and coping skills.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
