I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in the areas of depression, infertility, anxiety, addiction, relationship issues/boundaries, and grief. I am an advocate for those I work with, empowering them to find strength within themselves to become successful independently. However, I also enjoy problem solving and supporting self-determination. I am a realist, meaning that I do not expect that life will become easy or happiness will be immediately achieved, but I also feel nothing is insurmountable. I work tirelessly to improve the lives of the individuals and couples who see me because this is my passion.

I help women who are passionate about finding their most authentic selves, and possess a deep desire to live a life that's a true reflection of who they are and their values. Women are finding new ways of living everyday, but change is often scary, especially when we lack a working template of the ways we want to show up different. We want a life that leaves us feeling fulfilled, rather than empty. Inspired rather than soulless. To live a life driven by purpose and passion. Working together, we'll explore how to break free from learned toxic relationship patterns, unhealthy societal expectations, and outdated gender roles.

Psychotherapy is a process leading to the recognition of one's true self. As difficulties begin to "make sense," how to tackle personal problems becomes clearer. No one's depression, relationships, anxiety, or self-esteem difficulties are exactly like anyone else's. That is why understanding one’s unique life is more helpful than a diagnosis. Current problems are often influenced by past experiences which can then become generalized assumptions about life and others. It is important to separate assumptions from the truth. Good therapy results in personal understanding, but more importantly, a greater sense of being alive.

Psychotherapy is a collaborative process; the therapist must be serious and respectful and possess a solid reservoir of knowledge about the human condition. The therapy-seeker must, in addition to wanting symptom relief, bring to the process his or her curiosity and some desire for increased self awareness. People come to psychotherapy in emotional turmoil and/or pain. While this is usually the first focus, quickly it will become important to try to understand one's personality style, one's relationship patterns and the roots of these patterns, one's thinking style and the characteristic way one goes about managing, deflecting or enacting emotional storms.

One of the things life has taught me is to not believe everything you think because our mind can really play tricks on us. There is hope even when you think there is none. There are solutions even when you cannot see them, because you have more power than you know.

Therapy is different with each person. At the heart of my therapeutic approach is careful, thoughtful, and non-judgmental listening. It is important that you feel understood and hopeful, and that we can work together. Starting therapy, people hope to find relief, yet often feel ambivalent, unsure about what they want, and afraid of the unknown. I view therapy as a two-person process. We will focus on understanding the feeling of being at an impasse in life, and roots of repetitive relationships and life patterns. This will help us develop individualized ways to decrease suffering, promote insight, and foster a sense of ownership of your life.

If you are searching to understand the whys? and hows? of life, I can help you make some connections between what you thought it would be and what it seems to be. Sometimes our passions don't align with our accomplishments and that leaves us feeling dissatisfied or devalued. By developing insight into how our thoughts and decisions impact our behavior, we will develop a plan to identify and target patterns that aren't working so well, breaking each part down into an approachable action step.

Finding a therapist that is a good fit for you is pivotal to a beneficial and meaningful experience in therapy. A strong therapeutic relationship is the vehicle for change and the strongest predictor of treatment success. My international education encouraged me to adopt a flexible, curious, and inclusive perspective on the factors that contribute to one's identity and difficulties (e.g., religion, ethnicity, culture, gender, sexual orientation, etc.). I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental space to support clients' introspective journeys, exploration of identities, and understanding of the self, others, and the world.

Psychoanalytic Therapists
Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.
How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.
Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.
Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
