I use Prolonged Exposure therapy.
I understand that seeking help is not always easy. So the first thing I want to tell you is that I believe that therapy clients are some of the bravest people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. Coming to discuss personal things with someone you've never before met is brave. I realize that you might not feel brave or strong when you seek my help, but I hope to have the chance to help you feel those things. There are several reasons why people seek counseling including relationship issues, depression, anxiety, and fear. Unprocessed trauma is often at the root and can feel like it invades every aspect of life.

I am glad you are here. I'm Marissa, an LCSW with over a decade of clinical experience in mental health. I graduated from NYU's Silver School of Social Work in 2016 with honors. Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, I worked in law serving underserved populations, but found it difficult to make the impact I wanted, so I pivoted to this more balanced career. I bring knowledge of modalities like psychodynamic psychotherapy, EMDR, DBT, and CBT, along with a broad lens on systems from my law background. I am warm, relational, and love seeing my clients make progress. You will have my undivided attention and a safe space in every session.

You can’t shut your mind off.
The same intrusive thought keeps hitting—violent, sexual, blasphemous, or just completely out of character—and no matter how hard you try to push it away, it comes back stronger. You question what it means about you. You replay it, analyze it, check your feelings, look for certainty… and still feel no relief. Maybe you’re constantly asking, “What if this thought is real?” or “What if I’m becoming someone I don’t want to be?”
You’re exhausted, stuck in your own head, and starting to lose trust in yourself.

I find that I work best with those who are not interested in an overly sterile therapy experience and who may lovingly self-label as freaks/outcasts/weirdos. I believe therapy shouldn't feel hierarchical, nor alienating. You and I are collaborating to help you reach a point in your life where you feel stable and content. I’m not here to judge you or tell you what to do, but rather to work as a friendly voice to help you connect missing pieces and wade through life’s challenges with more confidence.

I work with high-functioning adults who are tired of surface-level therapy. Many of my clients are insightful, successful, and capable—but have experienced sustained stressful experiences over a course of time.
Most people don’t come to therapy because they lack insight. They come because they keep finding themselves in the same place—having the same arguments, feeling the same anxiety, avoiding the same conversations, or wondering why life still feels harder than it should.
I help people identify the patterns that keep them stuck and develop new ways of responding that create meaningful change.
