As a Marriage &
Family Therapist
(t), I have helped couples & families achieve a new sense of understanding each other that leads to satisfaction in many areas of their lives.
Accepting new clients! Are you finding you and your partner arguing often, living as roommates, walking on eggshells, or all of the above? This can be very lonely and feel like a great love lost. Avoiding the root of these conflicts can continue negative cycles and lead to resentment, and relationship exhaustion. I use the "gold standard" of couples therapy to help couples understand their negative pattern, become aware of how to change it, and begin to cradle each other in conflict instead of turning away.

family
dynamics, and personal growth.
If you find yourself experiencing problems that defy simple solutions, therapy can provide the caring, confidential conversation that your situation requires. Whether you seek treatment to alleviate anxiety or depression, to improve your experience of close relationships, or to emerge from a rut in your professional life, therapy can assist you in recognizing the connections between your personal history and your present problems—and in so doing, to stop dysfunctional patterns and increase your openness to new experiences. Where indicated or requested, I also provide psychological testing and assessment.

Mental health challenges, navigating the many questions and decisions in life, the loss of
family
members, or a child with confusing behaviors can all be overwhelming at times.
Finding a space to feel safe, heard, and valued can be extremely difficult. It's even harder to find this space, when we're feeling overwhelmed by life. Over the past 11 years, I have learned that this essential piece- developing trust and safety with my clients- is the basis for healing and wholeness. I truly strive to put my clients and their needs first. If you're struggling with mental health challenges as a result of trauma or significant life stress, I would love to talk more with you about how we might work together to begin finding the peace or healing that you're seeking.

In addition to symptom reduction, therapy often focuses on (re)building meaningful relationships with
family
, friends, and important others.
Finding a therapist that is a good fit for you is pivotal to a beneficial and meaningful experience in therapy. A strong therapeutic relationship is the vehicle for change and the strongest predictor of treatment success. My international education encouraged me to adopt a flexible, curious, and inclusive perspective on the factors that contribute to one's identity and difficulties (e.g., religion, ethnicity, culture, gender, sexual orientation, etc.). I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental space to support clients' introspective journeys, exploration of identities, and understanding of the self, others, and the world.

Why is it that asking for help with parenting is so taboo? We have likely never had a child in this age range or dealt with the concerns we are having, so why wouldn't we need to ask for help? As a child therapist, my goal is to join alongside of you to help your child better understand their big emotions, trauma, and find effective coping skills using play therapy techniques, traditional talk therapy, IFS, and more.

I see individuals ages 8-26. I offer individual and
family therapy
sessions. My sessions are very unique in that I allow a place for kiddos to be kiddos. My favorite part of my job is when a client tells me, "I never thought therapy could be like this." or "This makes so much sense." Kiddos are in a state of development that can be either extremely scary or exciting. What makes the difference is when they and loved ones understand this process on a cognitive, emotional, and physiological level. Then behaviors and responses become more clear and how to handle them becomes more effective.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
