I value honesty and authenticity above all else, which means that I promise to show up and be your partner while exploring difficult and emotional topics.
Accepting new clients with immediate openings! Taking the first step to engage in therapy is a big step and I'm so happy you have considered me as a possible companion on this journey. Whether you are new to the process of therapy or coming back , it can be hard to find a therapist that is right for you. Most often, I work with young and emerging adults as they are moving away from home, launching into new careers, and starting their own families. This is an exciting and challenging time in life, which can bring about a host of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, identity formation concerns, trauma, shame, and much more.

From the individual facing grief, to the parent coping with childhood struggles, to the individual considering a relationship change, I enjoy learning about those I meet in the therapy relationship .
I find it a true honor to have had the opportunity to work for over 30 years with individuals and families in varying levels of distress (inpatient, crisis work, outpatient). I believe that it takes courage to face change and look forward to meeting you and to committing to joining you on your journey. To share my style of compassion and positivity, I take a "glass half full" view of life and pledge to help guide others toward finding their "real truth".

My primary goal in working with clients is to build a trusting and transparent relationship where together we can explore the relationship they have with self, important people in their lives, and the unique environments they navigate. This means my approach is insight-driven and built on the belief that self-knowledge is an empowering tool needed to create a deeper understanding of patterns, emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. In my experience, this process creates space for the brain to consciously make the desired changes.

Does it feel like you and your spouse are having the same fight over and over again? These recurring disagreements often provide little resolution, leaving us feeling misunderstood and disconnected. This relationship dynamic is not only frustrating, it starts to impact our own individual happiness and health. I assist couples by helping them step back and view their own relationship dynamic in a way that brings about their true voice and intentions in the moments of anger, blame, disconnection and withdrawal. In this way, each partner can begin to hear and experience one another in a way that builds intimacy, connection and hope.

While I am trained as a generalist and enjoy working with a wide range of presenting concerns, I have expertise in areas related to complex trauma, relationship difficulties, family issues, impulse-control, suicidality, self-injurious behavior, and identity concerns.
Accepting New Clients! To have someone open their heart in therapy and trust me with it, is truly an honor. Therapy can be hard. Often times people share things with me they haven’t shared with anyone else. Because of this, I believe the relationship between client and therapist is the most important factor in therapy and what I focus on building first with you. Moreover, I take an integrative approach to therapy, conceptualizing from psychodynamic and interpersonal theories while utilizing interventions from EFT, DBT, CBT and interpersonal theories. All of my work is grounded in multicultural and strength-based views.

My experience working in residential, day, in-home and out-patient treatment settings has taught me the profound negative impact to relationship development that is caused by childhood abuse and trauma.
If you are broken and in need of healing from abuse and trauma and/or are trying to parent a "child forgotten" you have come to the right place. Suffering through the aftermath of sexual abuse, domestic violence, emotional abuse, foster care and extreme neglect often makes it nearly impossible to trust others, which is a necessary starting point for healthy relationship formation. Built to Bond, Inc. is designed to enable you to make sense of your trauma and begin the healing process from a Christian perspective through the "Treat PTSD with PTSD to get PTSD" treatment modality.

I want you to feel safe in the therapeutic relationship in order to foster growth.
Finding a therapist and starting therapy can feel hard. Often we wait until things are overwhelming and we have no idea where to start. I feel my job as a therapist is to help guide you through the journey of therapy and self discovery. I view therapy as a partnership where we set goals and figure out how to approach them together. It can be scary to realize you need help navigating through certain situations, but with the right person to help guide you, the process can feel empowering. Whether you are experiencing depression, anxiety, life changes, family problems, ADHD, or are simply trying to navigate life, we can work together.

I also love working with individuals and couples , where we take a collaborative but direct approach to explore how you can live life on your terms.
Are you struggling in your relationships? Having a hard time communicating with others? Do you find yourself stuck in the same patterns with other people? Feeling stressed out, anxious, or depressed because nobody seems to know what you need? If you feel stuck and aren’t sure where to go next – I can help. My focus is improving your relationships and managing anxiety, stress, and mood issues stemming from day-to-day life. We live in the context of our social relationships (family, friends, romantic, etc.), and there is no better way to treat mental health concerns than through a social lens.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
