I currently have a long waitlist! I understand the concern and confusion that parents may have when their child experiences difficulties in school, home, or elsewhere. I believe in working together with parents to help their children. I take time to get to know my clients so I can offer the most appropriate, individualized care for them. I trained in educational and behavioral psychology and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. In addition to direct treatment services, I am able to provide evaluations with extensive reports to aid in treatment planning.

From cognitive behavioral therapy to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, I practice from a "client-centered" approach to design a treatment plan that is unique to my client and his or her needs.
The process of initiating therapy can be scary. Trusting someone you don't know isn't always easy. The truth is that life is difficult. We have all experienced sadness, loss, fear, and loneliness. Therapy can help find clarity and strength. My experience is as diverse as those I serve such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, & LGBT issues, marital counseling, and PTSD. I enjoy my work and feel blessed to be a tool for God to help those who are hurting or in need of understanding. My greatest reward comes from empowering people with the confidence and tools to make a positive change.

The therapies I have found clinically successful are: a) for trauma - EMDR and CPT, b) for substance abuse/addiction - Motivational Interviewing and ACT , c) for couples counseling - EFCT (Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy), Schema Therapy and Conflict Resolution skill building, d) for depression and/or anxiety - CBT, ACT , mindfulness practices, and RET.
I work with many issues and a range of clients (16 years of age and older), and specialize in trauma, substance abuse/addiction, anxiety, depression, and couples therapy. My biggest strengths are the ability to listen with empathy to clients, help them identify and clarify issues, build goals together, and develop plans that resolve those issues. We work on managing and reducing the impact of symptoms you are experiencing, but also on skill-building to empower you to overcome an issue and grow past it.

I draw largely from Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Client Centered Therapy, and Mindfulness based approaches, and I stay current with relevant advances in neuropsychology which impact psychotherapy.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience in the field I strive to provide informed and evidence based treatment to clients of diverse backgrounds in a safe, supportive, and accepting environment. Therapy is a unique experience in which we can create the space that we don't often make for ourselves otherwise to stay with and explore our thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I recognize that seeking support can be difficult and I truly value the positive feedback my clients have provided regarding their feelings of comfort and safety in their work with me.

ACT , CBT, EMDR and The Gottman Method for Couples are all modes of therapy that I find beneficial in working together with clients, along with Mindfulness and Yoga.
All of us encounter struggles throughout life. At times, those struggles can be overwhelming and challenge our ability to cope. During those times it is difficult and sometimes, impossible, to recognize our own inherent strength. Therapy can allow for a safe space to work through those struggles. I enjoy working with clients in developing self awareness of their own strengths. Together, we can then re-build or construct new ways to cope with life's stressors.

Using modalities such as ACT , meditation, mindfulness, somatic work, EMDR, and other trauma-informed approaches, I aim to empower clients to realize their internal resources for healing and growth and come into alignment with their true self.
Life is a natural ebb and flow. However, when we get stuck in the ebb we can begin to develop patterns of being that do not serve our physical and emotional wellbeing; this can be a difficult place from which to emerge. The decision to seek guidance during these times is a bold act of self-compassion. We have incredible internal resources and an inherent capacity for healing. My role is to help guide clients back to connection with their authentic selves and others through the process of curious exploration, loving-kindness, and present moment awareness.

I enjoy incorporating acceptance into my work, focusing on the idea that all emotions are important and serve a purpose.
Therapy is a passion that I feel so lucky to have found. I learn with and from every client I see. While I have experience with many populations, I am most knowledgeable with assisting victims of domestic violence, children struggling with depression/anxiety, and individuals who have experience with addiction. I enjoy working with individuals who are ready to face their fears, build a therapeutic relationship, and improve their overall quality of life. I believe that regardless of what you have achieved, you deserve the life you are willing to create for yourself. I currently see ages 13 and up.

I use an integrated talk therapy model that utilizes techniques primarily from Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Attachment Theory, and Existentialism.
I work with a wide range of individual and couple's issues both faith-based and non faith-based. My expertise is in the treatment of attachment injury and complex trauma. Often clients are unaware issues with their partner, or family are rooted in an attachment injury and/or complex trauma. They come in because they feel stuck, frustrated, or exhausted with themselves and their relationships. Nothing is working and they just want the pain to stop. Once we begin the therapeutic process it becomes clear attachment injuries and/or complex traumas are informing how they live, love, and do life-- and new understanding brings new hope.

I use an integrative approach in addressing issues, pulling from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Strengths-Based therapy--to name a few--to address your individual needs and goals in each of our therapy sessions.
I believe that your therapist is not the expert on your life, goals, and aspirations, but rather a mental health partner who comes alongside you to help you navigate life's struggles and celebrate life's joys. You may be facing the deepest lows of depression, the rollercoaster of anxiety, or any range of mental health struggles, but I believe there is hope for your future and would be honored to join you in your journey to finding and actualizing that future.

I firmly believe in a person-centered approach to therapy, but my approach is also influenced by ACT ( Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and Jungian psychotherapy.
Are you anxious? Scared? Or, maybe you’re just plain mad? That’s OK! Sometimes life can get overwhelming! When the pressure of life squeezes us, it's easy to respond in fear or anger. But, I want to help you find another path: the path to relaxation, mindfulness, and personal growth!

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

Is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy evidence-based?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is one of many approaches within the field of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is an evidence-based treatment framework that has been shown to be effective in treating many mental health conditions including depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and OCD.

What is the difference between Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?

Despite being part of the CBT family of therapies, ACT differs from other approaches within this field in several important ways: First, it emphasizes acceptance over change; second, it focuses on present moment experiences rather than past experiences or future events; third it focuses on what clients can do rather than what they cannot do; and fourth it emphasizes values rather than symptoms as targets for change.

What credentials will a certified Acceptance and Commitment therapist have?

A certified Acceptance and Commitment therapist in Knoxville will have completed specialized training in this approach at a university accredited by The Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT).

How long does ACT typically take?

ACT is a relatively short-term therapy that focuses on helping you accept the things you can't change and commit to the things you can. It typically takes about eight weeks of weekly sessions with a therapist to complete the entire process. You may need to see your therapist weekly or biweekly, depending on the circumstances surrounding your situation.
