Maybe you have a need to be in control or have everything perfect; or put others' needs first all the time, suffering from guilt for saying "no". I have worked with patients from a variety of walks of life: 4 years of age to 75 years of age. I walk alongside those that deal with anxiety, ADHD, marital challenges, behavior issues, depression, bi-polar, PTSD, substance use, and trauma for those who desire to make their goals a reality. I provide counseling for children ages 6 and up for those struggling with behaviors in school, at home and in the community. I provide a safe place where children can be themselves, adapt their life skills or "tools" and learn more to add to their toolbox in order to increase positive, healthy behaviors that assist them as they maneuver life.

Kelsey works with individuals, adolescents, and adults. She believes that we live in stories. It is through relationships, conversations, and stories that we create meaning in life. By examining the stories we tell ourselves, re-authoring them, and externalizing problems, then we can construct new and liberating stories. In counseling, Kelsey uses narrative therapy to engage with clients in the stories of their lives. She focuses on building an atmosphere of curiosity, respect, and transparency. She believes individuals matter, bearing witness to stories matters, and that individuals have strengths and the power to change.

Do you find yourself wondering why you're where you are in life...what brought you to this point? What is the meaning of this crisis in my life? Is there a purpose for my life? My approach to therapy is founded in Carl Jung's Depth Psychology and is useful for all life's problems that come our way - depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, grief, relationships, career and aging as well as for reflection and personal growth. Together we can find the answers to these questions. My approach is holistic, warm, client centered and non judgmental.

I am a counselor that values the depth of human relationships. I use a variety of therapeutic interventions that can be summarized as somatic and attachment focused, relational, and mindful. All of these interventions are built off of the idea of present moment awareness. This means that I use each moment as potential for awareness into your inner experience. I spend time assisting each client in expanding their window of tolerance for discomfort as well as developing tools and techniques for structural changes. I am experienced working with general mental health concerns as well as trauma, PTSD, and associated concerns.

Are you ready and motivated for change? I am here to help. It is easy to get stuck in our patterns and find ourselves unsure of how to make a significant shift. I only ask that you are willing to push past the uncomfortable emotions and honestly face things standing in your way. I believe therapy is one of the only sacred spaces that exist where you can come, as you are, and work toward where you want to be. I also believe it is not my place to be an advice giver, but a teammate who can help you find your own way through.

So, you've got the accomplishments and successes other people want; you've ticked the boxes, done the right things, and constantly push yourself to do your very best, but inside you feel anxious and alone. In fact, you're just plain exhausted. A part of you might even chime in to (not so helpfully) remind you that you should just be happy with what you have, especially since it could totally be worse. (Side note, this is your critical voice, and it tends to share uninvited opinions at will.) But you’re here because a part of you, even if it’s small and hesitant, wants something more. It feels scary to hope, but you’re here to try.

It is so lovely to meet you! The minute you enter my office I will accept and EMBRACE you just as you are. We are humans. We are flawed, but beautifully flawed. I strongly believe healing begins with the therapeutic relationship and I will do my best to create a safe space for vulnerability. I am a therapist AND a social worker. I believe in holistic care that is tailored to the individual (s) as well as the power of networking, referrals, and continuity of care. I may challenge you to be the best version of yourself because you deserve the best that this short life has to offer. Loving ourselves amidst our own mistakes

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
