Rachael finds herself using Solution Focused and Behavioral Therapy due to the rapid results and retention of new skills. She believes that Mental Health should be treated the same as one who goes to the Medical Doctor for an illness, we want results, and that is what she wants to give you. Of course, all treatments are not the same and some bumps in the road take longer to repair. Rachael is willing and able to adjust her Therapeutic skills to meet your needs and is willing to walk right beside you as you heal, no matter how long it takes.

Are you ready and motivated for change? I am here to help. It is easy to get stuck in our patterns and find ourselves unsure of how to make a significant shift. I only ask that you are willing to push past the uncomfortable emotions and honestly face things standing in your way. I believe therapy is one of the only sacred spaces that exist where you can come, as you are, and work toward where you want to be. I also believe it is not my place to be an advice giver, but a teammate who can help you find your own way through.

I am a proud Appalachian American, living in East Tennessee with my husband and our three boys. Twelve years ago, I began working with individuals of varying abilities and diverse diagnoses. Populations served range from children with Autism Spectrum Disorder to adults with dual diagnosis and adolescents healing from abuse and neglect to women in recovery from domestic violence and human trafficking. These eclectic experiences have further confirmed that therapy can help everyone. No matter the phase of life, we can all benefit from someone walking with us.

I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist who is Certified in Parent Child Interactive Therapy…. What does this mean???? This means that my ideal clients that can benefit the most from working with me would be families or couples who need some help working through hard moments or transition phases in life OR children ages 2-12 struggling with behavioral issues such as fighting, throwing, biting, foul language, not listening, etc. I do work with individuals as well, email me what is going on and we can determine if I am the best fit for your situation. I currently live in East Tennessee with my wife of 20+ years and our three beautiful adult daughters and grandson (with 2 more grands on the way)! I am a graduate of Ole Miss and the University of Alabama. I have spent the last 8 years as a therapist in multiple settings and prior to that worked in the social work/child welfare field. I bring a unique personal therapeutic approach for adoptive and foster families. I also enjoy working with college students, individuals and couples. I see life as a journey and see therapy as a break to rest, recharge and refuel so that the journey may continue despite the bumps along the way.

MFT has a special interest in working alongside you as you navigate transitions and changes across the lifespan: whether in the pre-or-

period, during adolescence and early adulthood, middle age and mid-career, older adults rethinking relationships, or couples and families working through years of entrenched conflict.
Minton Family Therapy (MFT) is a husband and wife, marriage and family therapy practice based in Knoxville, TN offering both in person and Telehealth psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and families. MFT seeks to treat the whole person (or couple, or family) in the context of whatever may be impeding personal, professional, physical and emotional growth. Taking both a creative and integrative approach, potential patients can expect to explore longstanding patterns of interaction that may hinder current relationships and begin to reshape those patterns into a more healthy and whole self.

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.
When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.
How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?
In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
