You may be feeling stuck, anxious, or unsure about your next steps. Maybe panic or addiction has disrupted your life, or a major transition has left you questioning your identity and direction. You might be a teen, college student, or adult searching for clarity, stability, and hope. As a therapist in Donelson, serving Nashville and across Tennessee via telehealth, I offer a space where you can explore your story, address challenges, and begin moving toward a more grounded and meaningful life. For kids, I am able to use creative ways such as play therapy to allow them to process their emotions in their own way... through play!

In my 60+ years I have personally experienced a lot of things that my clients share with me. I am able to empathize or and the very least identify with my clients needs. My approach is Person/Client Centered; Person-centered therapy uses a non-authoritative approach that allows clients to take more of a lead in discussions so that, in the process, they will discover their own solutions. The therapist acts as a compassionate facilitator, listening without judgment and acknowledging the client’s experience without moving the conversation in another direction. The therapist is there to encourage and support the client.

I work specifically with adults and their families navigating substance use and recovery.
In my own journey, I didn’t have family support or a safety net. What I did have were a few people who believed in me when I couldn’t believe in myself. That kind of support changed everything, and it’s what I strive to offer. Recovery isn’t just about stopping use; it’s about learning to live again and loosen shame’s grip.

Do you feel caught in a cycle of intense emotions, "clingy" attachment patterns, or relationship conflicts that leave you exhausted? I work with adults who feel emotionally overwhelmed or caught in impulsive behaviors they can’t quite change on their own. Whether you are navigating Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), Complex PTSD, or the pain of repeated failed relationships, you don’t have to figure it out in a vacuum. Together, we’ll move toward secure attachment and self-compassion, replacing "autopilot" reactions with intentional, healthy choices.

My clinical experience includes providing treatment for anxiety, mood, and substance use disorders.
Arriving at the place of wholeness oftentimes is a journey. That path has “detours” and “construction” blocks along the way. Some of us barrel through those and some of us turn around. Either direction leaves us in a place where we need healing. We all have the strength to conquer our adversities and I want to partner with you.

I understand how hard it is to ask for help during one of life's challenges and I honor the courage it takes to begin the counseling process. I partner with clients by meeting each person where they are and by providing a safe, non-judgmental therapuetic space to work through problems, process feelings and find solutions. I provide a sounding board and empowerment to each person by using sense of humor, direct communication and a strong, diverse counseling skill set to help individuals reach their goals.

Feeling stuck in the same cycle. Overthinking, second-guessing, and feeling like you are falling behind while everyone else seems to move forward. Maybe it is anxiety, self-doubt, or habits that feel too hard to control. You may know something needs to change, but you are unsure how to actually do it. That is exhausting. You do not need surface-level advice or someone just nodding along. You need honest conversations, practical tools, and a clear way forward.

I love helping people see that healing is possible, and that they are not alone. That healing may be needed because of the stress and anxiety that is a product of this time that we are all in right now, or it may be an ongoing battle. All human beings have some of the same core wounding….none of us get through this life unscathed. And everyone copes with this wounding a little differently, but deep down, we are looking for connection…with others, with self, and with a power greater than self. It is a humbling blessing to be able to walk along side of people as they take steps toward healing.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
