I enjoy working with clients who are struggling to deal with overpowering emotions, manage problem behaviors, or navigate difficult relationships. These difficulties might show up in lots of different ways, such as depression (including feeling suicidal), anxiety, self-harm, abusing substances, self-criticism or shame, or other ways. I understand how painful these challenges can cause life to feel, and have great admiration and respect for those who want to take action to feel better. Learn more at my website, www.lindahardylpc.com.

I enjoy working with individuals and couples who are suffering from the effects of trauma and attachment wounds. I love joining with families and children who are facing behavioral challenges and helping them to grieve, problem-solve, and begin enjoying each other again. My experience as an in-home therapist and clinical supervisor for children who are at risk of being removed from their home has given me a wealth of experience and tools to share with families and I am willing to coach parents and children in the home when needed.

Maybe you’ve been carrying a lot on your own. From the outside, your life might look fine—but inside, you may feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure where to turn. It can be hard to say out loud what you’re really going through, especially when you’re used to being the strong one. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to keep doing this by yourself.

Too often we live life in the fog of good health and favorable circumstances. But then, inevitably, something happens. Something difficult and hard to understand that pushes to the forefront the need for wisdom. Is there hope? On whom can I depend? What am I living for? What matters? Will I live? How will I live? Author and poet Wendell Berry said: "It may be that when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey. The mind that is not baffled is not employed. The impeded stream is the one that sings."

I love helping people see that healing is possible, and that they are not alone. That healing may be needed because of the stress and anxiety that is a product of this time that we are all in right now, or it may be an ongoing battle. All human beings have some of the same core wounding….none of us get through this life unscathed. And everyone copes with this wounding a little differently, but deep down, we are looking for connection…with others, with self, and with a power greater than self. It is a humbling blessing to be able to walk along side of people as they take steps toward healing.

I specialize in trauma, personality disorders, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and addiction.
My ideal client has been through difficult experiences — trauma, loss, relationship struggles, or the weight of a personality disorder or addiction — and is ready to start making sense of it all. They may be an adolescent navigating a turbulent season of life, an adult who has carried pain for too long, or a couple or family ready to rebuild connection. They want more than just symptom relief; they want to understand themselves, heal at the root, and create lasting change. They may also be someone from the LGBTQI community seeking a therapist who truly sees and welcomes them as they are.

Knowing that the therapeutic relationship is built on trust, hope, and care, I create an environment in which people can be themselves. My approach is holistic, acknowledging the interaction of mind, body and spirit in the healing process. I invite people to look at both how they have been hurt and what they have done with their pain. At core, I view counseling as a healing relationship that helps people grow in their capacity to love others and to love themselves.

I am sensitive to the many components that contribute to both personal blocks and growth. I view life as a journey with peaks and valleys, dark places and light places, and the inevitable changes of seasons. If I can walk with you on your journey, if even for a short time, to process difficulties in the present, pain from the past, or desires for the future, I count myself as honored. I endeavor to be a safe place for my clients so they can be honest without judgment.

Therapy is an opportunity to alleviate emotional pain and a safe space to reflect and grow. When seeking therapy, many people might be unsure of what they want and afraid of uncertainty. My hope is to help you walk through a healthy perspective to replenish a meaningful and rewarding life where you can see yourself more completely and inspire yourself to be the calm within the storm. With a compassionate, non-judgmental, and psychologically mindful space, I hope you will feel deeply understood and optimistic.

Personality Disorders Therapists
What are the common treatment options for personality disorders?
Personality disorders are typically treated with psychotherapy, sometimes in conjunction with medication. Therapy can help people with personality disorders develop skills to tolerate difficult emotions, navigate interpersonal relationships, and solidify their sense of self. Medications can treat symptoms that co-occur with the disorder, such as depression, anger, aggression, and impulsivity.

When to seek treatment for personality disorders?
Even though treatment for personality disorders can be an uphill battle, it’s best to seek help if you suspect that you or a loved one is struggling with one, because personality disorders can create substantial problems in life. Symptoms depend on the specific disorder, but overall signs of personality disorders include consistent difficulty maintaining close relationships, dramatic variations in self-esteem, and an unstable sense of identity.

How long does therapy take for personality disorders?
The timeline for treating personality disorders isn’t as clear-cut as it is for other disorders. Change can be difficult, taking from around one year to five, 10, or more. The key is finding a therapist who has extensive experience treating the relevant disorder. For example, a psychologist who specializes in narcissistic personality disorder has specific communication strategies that allow them to sustain the relationship and be more effective with narcissistic patients.

Can therapy help people with personality disorders?
Research suggests that for those who are motivated to address concerns or interpersonal conflict related to a personality disorder, therapy is far more effective than no treatment, and that most people in therapy see improvements. However, since personality disorders involve entrenched elements of identity, they are less responsive to treatment than are other mental health conditions. Finding an expert who has extensive experience working with a given personality disorder is one factor that increases the likelihood of successful treatment.
