In our journey through life, we encounter times that are tough to navigate. It could be a fresh challenge that appears out of nowhere or an old emotional wound that requires healing. Sometimes, we need a place to share our thoughts, feelings, and emotions freely. That's where counseling steps in as a valuable tool. I see it as a way to guide and support your personal growth and healing, helping you move forward.

Trust and respect: Two requirements for love to grow. If your relationship is in trouble, these parts are probably missing. I specialize in helping couples rebuild when trust and respect are lost.
Nothing damages a relationship more than betrayal. There is a process to not just recovering from, but redeeming what has happened. In many ways the betrayal is like a big boulder in the way of your relationship. Couples who don't address the boulder end up dragging it with them. The goal of counseling is to push the boulder out of the way and leave it behind.

My approach to therapy is relational and humanistic to help you heal and grow. Clients often know what they would like to accomplish, but old habits can be deeply rooted. Together we can work toward breaking free from old patterns and move toward meaningful change. In addition to talk therapy, I am certified in guided imagery, which can help you connect thoughts and feelings to somatic sensations. This can enhance traditional talk therapy by strengthening the mind-body connection and increasing self-awareness. I specialize in working with adults dealing with insomnia, depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, and chronic pain.

Stuck. Lost. Unsure how to move forward. These are words clients have said to me at the beginning of our time together. I love helping these clients when they are experiencing a large transition in their lives; either one they have been looking forward to, or one that has taken them by surprise! Change can be incredibly difficult, but I love helping my clients see the unique opportunities within those changes to take more control and ownership over their own stories.

One of the most powerful steps we can take in life is choosing to heal. Whether you’re navigating trauma, anxiety, grief, or long-held patterns that no longer serve you, I love helping people find clarity, relief, and a renewed sense of self through deep, meaningful therapeutic work. We all carry the weight of past experiences, some of which have shaped us in ways we don’t fully understand until we begin to slow down and pay attention.

Do you see the world differently? Do you know to the very depths of your SOUL you're an eternal spiritual being? Are you ‘awakening’ and need a therapist who ‘gets it?’ Who challenges the norms and normalizes the mysterious? For 25+ yrs I've been helping people go within, heal and integrate wounded parts, uncover and embody True Self. This includes facilitation of grounded mystical contact with pure, loving emanations of the Divine into your healing/awakening journey. My style is informal, creative, intuitive (claircognizant/clairsentient), psycho-spiritual, relational; real. I love learning, love people, and love this work.

Too often we live life in the fog of good health and favorable circumstances. But then, inevitably, something happens. Something difficult and hard to understand that pushes to the forefront the need for wisdom. Is there hope? On whom can I depend? What am I living for? What matters? Will I live? How will I live? Author and poet Wendell Berry said: "It may be that when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey. The mind that is not baffled is not employed. The impeded stream is the one that sings."

Everyone faces challenges in today's fast-paced society. Sometimes, the challenges can feel overwhelming. Therapy can help address issues that interfere with our relationships, goals, happiness and ability to function. Change in behavior does not typically come easily, though. Established thinking and behavior patterns may get us through the day, but they also can prevent us from reaching our full potential. When a client establishes a therapeutic relationship with a counselor, they in essence are saying that merely functioning is not good enough. They want more: increased self-awareness, improved relationships, enhanced professional success, greater personal happiness.

Addiction, loss, trauma, conflict…the story does not have to end there. It can move to recovery, acceptance, healing, and connection. Whether the troubles are in our relationships or inside us as individuals, I see counseling as a powerful process for mental and relational health. I have experienced first-hand the healing power of counseling in my own recovery from addiction. I want the same for my clients. I help my clients grow in self-awareness, self-acceptance, and self-love…how they view themselves in relation to their world and story

Knowing that the therapeutic relationship is built on trust, hope, and care, I create an environment in which people can be themselves. My approach is holistic, acknowledging the interaction of mind, body and spirit in the healing process. I invite people to look at both how they have been hurt and what they have done with their pain. At core, I view counseling as a healing relationship that helps people grow in their capacity to love others and to love themselves.

Let's talk about what is right about you......Let's name the good and let's begin the change. Most of us need help doing this as our day to day lives emphasize the negative and consequently we forget who we truly are. What does your "Best Self" look like and how do we get there. It is our hope at Positive Psychology Group that we may be of some help should you have retreated from an active participation in life by helping you rekindle the joy in life that has somehow been hidden and suppressed.

Hi! I'm Greg Kirkham, a licensed therapist, practicing for over 22 years. Currently, I specialize in the treatment of trauma and PTSD. Now, you may be thinking “but I don’t have trauma.” Trauma comes in all shapes and sizes and is often not recognized as such, but almost always has a significant impact on someone’s overall mental, physical and emotional health. Trauma also presents in many different forms, including struggles with depression, anxiety and anger management. Over my career I have worked with an array of populations, including children/families, juvenile sex offenders, and even convicts.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
