The most rewarding therapy sessions occur with clients who are motivated to make progress towards the goals they set. I strongly believe that the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client is of upmost importance to the client meeting their goals. I strive to build a trusting, supportive, and safe relationship with each of my clients. I believe everyone has their own unique story to tell. I enjoy hearing that story and helping people overcome the issues that can surface over a lifetime. I see adults and adolescents in my therapy practice as well as the occasional couple.

I believe we are relational creatures designed to live in intimate relationship with God, Self, and Others and attention must be given to all three areas in order to experience deep transformation. My desire is to walk with clients toward health by exploring their story to uncover the themes, shaping beliefs, and coping strategies that keep us from living fully. Since relational healing takes place in relationship , I strive to create a safe place for my clients to process, grow, be challenged, make personal and relational discoveries, and move toward healing, wholeness, and freedom.

My approach to therapy is rooted in connection and safety. I believe in the importance of the therapeutic relationship for healing and growth, and I strive to create a safe, accepting space for each of my clients. I approach therapy from a trauma-informed, psychodynamic perspective, exploring with clients how past experiences, attachment, and trauma have impacted them. I believe in the importance of acknowledging the whole self in the healing process, and I often incorporate ideas from Somatic Experiencing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, playtherapy/expressive arts, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy into counseling.

Self-esteem issues, relationship problems, or difficult transitions - everyone needs help navigating life sometimes. I encourage self-compassion and champion the idea that we can rewrite our stories at any age. I see our lives as a novel - who we are at chapter 13 is not who we have to be at chapter 27. Proactively taking steps toward who we want to become in future chapters is one of the best investments we can make in ourselves, and those we love. Whatever it is that you are facing right now, I would be honored to walk alongside you.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
