You may be functioning on the outside but feel internally overwhelmed, tense, or emotionally shut down. Your mind doesn’t slow down, small things feel heavy, and avoiding tasks or conversations has become easier than dealing with them. You might be carrying anxiety, unresolved experiences, or a sense that something isn’t right, but you can’t quite name it. Therapy can help you understand what’s happening beneath the surface and learn how to respond differently, rather than just pushing through.

My approach to therapy is highly relational, as I want to build trust and connection with my clients because I believe that you are more than just the problem(s) that you walk into therapy with. Our lives are lived surrounded by people and learning how to navigate the relationships with ourselves and others makes this life a bit easier. I desire to challenge my clients into places that aid their growth. Life is messy and broken at times, I am seeking clients that know this and have the resolve within them to not let that stop them from pursuing a greater life for themselves in the future.

I take a trauma-informed, collaborative approach, drawing from DBT, somatic, humanistic, and strengths-based perspectives to support healing, coping, and connection.
I support individuals navigating the impact of complex trauma, challenges with self-esteem, identity exploration, or life transitions. Many people I see come to therapy feeling disconnected from themselves, uncertain in relationships, or carrying experiences that feel overwhelming or hard to put into words. I provide an affirming, nonjudgmental space where people are welcomed and supported in all aspects of who they are.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 14 years of experience helping clients. I am a proud ‘Appalachian-American’ that was born and raised deep in the mountains of Upper Northeast TN. Although many of my personal life experiences are about what one would expect of someone growing up in East TN (cue BBQ ribs & banjo music), my work experience have been vastly different. I have been quite fortunate to get to work with individuals from quite literally all walks of life. I have worked with clients from preschool to post retirement.

I believe treatment is individualistic- depending on where we are in our work together, I utilize and pull tools from modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Internal Family Systems.
If you’re looking for perspective and a space to make sense of what’s weighing on you, you’re in good company here. Hi, I’m Alyssa- a relational therapist who believes healing happens through connection. Together, we’ll untangle the “stuff” we inherit, observe, and absorb over time- from family dynamics, imbalanced relationships, abandonment wounds, and childhood experiences- I’m here for the real, messy, human parts of life. This "stuff" can show up as difficulty setting boundaries, people-pleasing, fear of rejection, emotional withdrawal, or repeating patterns in relationships. Sound familiar?

My work is alchemy for the mind, body, and spirit. I support individuals who feel lost, emotionally numb, or overwhelmed, as well as those navigating trauma, substance use recovery, or the lasting impact of growing up in an alcoholic or dysfunctional family, Maybe you’re feeling unsure of your path, struggling to stay grounded, and questioning your worth along the way. You might even feel like you don’t fit in, a “black sheep” who has a hard time fully expressing your true self. If this resonates, you’re not alone and there is a way back to yourself. My work is centered around helping you come home to who you truly are.

You want more—more connection, more clarity, more meaning. Somewhere along the way, life taught you to survive- by disconnecting, overthinking, shrinking, pleasing, controlling, or numbing. These patterns may have protected you, but now they’re keeping you stuck: stuck in unfulfilling relationships, in anxiety that won’t quiet, in a constant feeling that something is missing, even if everything “looks fine” on the outside. Whether you're navigating a relationship that feels off, starting over after a major change, or just trying to understand why life feels heavy or unfulfilling, you're not alone.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
