I have extensive training in psychodynamic psychotherapy meaning I value what your past relationships taught you about who you are and how to love and be loved---and how those lessons are impacting your relationships today.
We all have an innate capacity to create a sense of well-being. Yet, the demands of our lives---difficult relationships, losses, disappointments, transitions---can cause feelings of helplessness or even despair. Vitality falls way to depression or anxiety or addictive behaviors. Therapy can be useful to better understand and manage the complexities of your life; to reclaim some vitality; to love, work, and play in ways that are more congruent with who you strive to be. With twenty five years of experience, I offer seasoned and compasssionate guidance as you define your specific goals and work toward inhabiting a truer version of yourself.

I hope to create a safe space where vulnerability and honesty can be practiced and valued. My therapeutic relationship with my clients is most important to me; I develop and maintain meaningful therapeutic relationships full of genuine discussion, rigorous honesty and self-reflection. I enjoy working with couples who are feeling disconnected and unheard, parents struggling to understand and effectively guide and influence their child, women who want to learn healthy boundaries in order to achieve relationships with themselves and others that are authentic, and families struggling with codependency and enmeshment.

I strive to be well versed in various treatment modalities so as to provide the best path for each client's individual healing and growth. I understand each person's lived experience is different and even similarities to other people (i.e. DSM-5 diagnoses) are formed due to unique circumstances and reasons in each person's life. This is why I will always tailor treatment to best meet each person's needs.

Welcome to a new style of psychotherapy. Instead of diagnosing you with a "disease" or "disorder" and treating you like a patient, I'm work with you to help you to do three things: (1) understand what happened in your past that led you to the habits and realities you now face that are causing you pain, (2) help you develop the compassion you need in order to (3) develop an unconditional and irrevocable self-love. That's how we heal. We learn to love ourselves unconditionally.

From the outside it may look like you have things under control, but internally it feels like you're furiously scrambling to keep up, or just catch your breath. You've likely prided yourself on being self-sufficient, independent, or the one that other people come to with their problems. But you're starting to realize that it's hard to show up for yourself and others when you feel like you're drowning. You need (and want!) MORE... More connection, more clarity, more space, more happiness, and more peace. And LESS... Less loneliness, confusion, apathy, anxiety, and shame.

Too often we live life in the fog of good health and favorable circumstances. But then, inevitably, something happens. Something difficult and hard to understand that pushes to the forefront the need for wisdom. Is there hope? On whom can I depend? What am I living for? What matters? Will I live? How will I live? Author and poet Wendell Berry said: "It may be that when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey. The mind that is not baffled is not employed. The impeded stream is the one that sings."

I help adults with OCD go from organizing their lives around fear and "what ifs" to building lives guided by their values without chasing certainty, using ERP therapy rooted in acceptance and compassion. Because when OCD is running the show, your mind doesn’t slow down. You replay conversations, question your feelings, and search for reassurance, but the relief never seems to stick. Intrusive thoughts feel urgent, anxiety strains your relationships, and you’ve become disconnected from yourself. You know it’s OCD or anxiety, but that doesn’t make the thoughts quieter, and you're exhausted.

I use an analytical, psychodynamic approach to explore how your past shapes your present.
As young adults, there’s more pressure than ever to have it all – the picturesque life, the perfect relationship, an impressive job, a robust social life, and no financial struggles. You may find yourself struggling with the pressure to meet life’s demands. Maybe you’re struggling with something heavier – loneliness or feeling lost in life. Transitioning into adulthood is exciting at first, but can quickly become overwhelming. You may realize the way things have been just isn’t sustainable anymore. You don’t have to navigate it alone.

I take a psychodynamic approach to therapy.
I love working with clients who have a readiness to gain greater self awareness, and those who have a deep desire to know and accept themselves. I have a heart for working with individuals from the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as those who have ADHD/ASD. As a member of these communities myself I know that many of us were taught to dislike ourselves or to try and blend in and I hope to offer each client who steps into my office a sense of safety and understanding.

As your therapist, I will offer you presence, focused attention and a collaborative effort to understand and make meaning of your inner life and conflicts. Together, we will work to bring about the changes necessary to empower you to live authentically, with purpose, and to achieve your full potential. I tend to work well with individuals who see their mental health as a journey or who are motivated to understand and work through the underlying causes of their difficulties in longer-term therapeutic relationships.

Do you find yourself feeling alone in your relationships, longing for deeper connection but unsure how to get there? Maybe you and your partner keep having the same painful arguments, unable to find the resolution and closeness you so desperately desire. Perhaps past experiences have made it hard to trust, leaving you feeling anxious or disconnected, even with people you love the most. You want to feel secure, understood, and valued in your relationships but something keeps getting in the way.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
